On a slightly different note, now that I’m in IV’s new post-game, I’ve come to really appreciate Cid. He wasn’t anything special when he showed up in the main game but now, with Thor’s Hammer, he is an absolute beast. I think he’s got the biggest damage output of all the physical fighters (well, in this version. I still can’t get over how my Kain in DS with Break Damage Limit, Focus and darkness managed to deal several dozen thousand damage to Zeromus in one Jump). I’ve no choice but to stan.

Also, my wife is digging IV and it’s gotten her into an FF mood. Considering how much she loves Bravely Default and the job system, she’s really looking forward to playing V. Problem is, I have no clue which version to recommend to her. The main dilemma here stems from the fact that I definitely wanna play Advance this time, since I played Steam the last time. I could recommend her the Steam version since then we could play the games in tandem (since even with me playing TAY after IV, I really doubt she’ll be able to beat V before I reach it as it’s her first time), but I have reservations about that. On the one hand, it has the better music, but then there’s the UI bring really bad (I don’t even personally mind the sprites) since they’re made for mobile, and the fact that she prefers playing JRPGs on handhelds. I could have her play the GBA version and just play something else in the meantime, like finish DQXI or replay Chrono Trigger. But then I really wouldn’t want to interrupt my marathon. I could just not play games in the meantime and focus on reading and creativity and just wait until she finishes.

Idk in the end I guess I’ll just show her some footage for comparison so she can decide what she wants her first FFV experience to be

Very interesting! See, this type of stuff I like because it references stuff from a previous game and makes it part of the new game’s world, but it doesn’t use that opportunity to retcon those two separate games into one continuity

Is FFIV’s world somehow confirmed to be linked to FFII?

Also that’s funny because it makes him sound a lot like Palom, but then in the After Years, while still arrogant, I feel that Palom has kind of balanced himself out quite a bit. I think he’s actually one of my favorite characters in that game, story-wise

Yeah I’m starting to develop this head canon that Tellah used to be all sex drugs and rock and roll in his youth. Makes his disapproval of Anna eloping with Edward all the more ironic

been looking into that honestly. But that's a whole other beast of challenges and a lot more writing, womp

    lol that’s accurate

Also, now that both me and my wife are playing FFIV, I was checking some stuff and found out that Tellah is only 60 years old. This is weird to me considering how not only is Cid in the same game just six years younger but in much better condition, but Galuf is also 60 and he’s definitely much more log what I’d expect from an actual 60-year-old. Strago is 70 and I feel that makes sense and would be more accurate for Tellah, but he’s 60. He’s show to be old to the point that he loses strength upon level up and has forgotten most of his spells due to some form of dementia, so why make him only 60? I guess the only reason would be that he’s Anna’s father and she’s in her 20s, so him being around 60 when she was born would be far weirder, but they they could have easily either portrayed him as younger or just made him Anna’s grandfather who’s also her sole guardian and she’s his only descendant. Idk, it’s weird and small but it’s driving me crazy

Idk I still find the notion hilarious considering the rest of the world is basically just following in whatever the US is doing. I’m honestly more convinced the situation here wouldn’t be as extreme had it not been for Trump’s presidency

Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-25-2020 at 12:43 AM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 02:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 03:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

by Wolf Kanno on 01-30-2020 at 09:17 PM
You know the drill…

I mentioned this in my Chain of Memories entry for my Top 100 List, but Kingdom Hearts and I have a really awkward history with each other. This is a franchise that has always been more of a guilty pleasure for me than something I actively love. Funny enough, it’s not even the basic premise that bothers me. While Final Fantasy meets Disney mash-up sounds contrived, KH has always managed to make it work since this
