Well glad you got it out of the way then!

Beat Majora’s Mask yesterday. Stone Tower Temple was brain wracking in the best possible way, though I am upset that they removed all the (in-universe) blasphemous imagery from the walls. It’s just not that interesting visually anymore. Overall though I kinda regret pretty much doing all of the side quests remaining before that dungeon since it was kinda underwhelming going right there. Overall I think the end game might be my least favorite part of MM. the moon interior is very cool with its beautiful field and tree, but the mini dungeons in there are either boring or immensely frustrating (the Goht Mask dungeon nearly broke me). Also just... from a story standpoint the end just feels a bit anticlimactic. You just... do what you set out to do and, as Tatl put it, “we both got what we wanted”, and everyone just says goodbye and it just doesn’t resonate that hard with me. I did, however, enjoy seeing what all the townspeople were up to in the epilogue. Also, fierce deity completely trivializes the final boss but I am absolutely willing to forgive it since all of that power you get actually feels earned imo. It would kind of counterintuitive to go out of your way and not use it.

Even though I’d played MM before, it was an incredible experience this time around. I’ve always liked it but now it’s probably in my top 3 favorite 3D Zeldas. It’s really great.

Kinda interesting, was never sure if the monsters stats actually changed

The alpha chapter one looks like it might be ready soon. I’ll probably be sending you something then.

Majora’s Mask is giving me that feeling that I haven’t had with a game for a while. I looked at my progress and I’ve got just one dungeon to go, six hearts left to collect, as well as fewer than ten masks left to uncover, and in my head I go “I’m not ready for this to end”. It’s been a good while since I’ve felt that about anything really. Didn’t know I was still capable of that lol

I’ll definitely have a listen, thanks! I’ve yet to see Akira. Someday though!

And yeah, I remember the Stone Temple and Ikana Canyon in general, so I can’t wait, but I’m probably gonna stick around the Great Bay for a while first for side quests. Gyorg I think is actually specifically worse than the original because they added an underwater phase which was horrible and almost made me waste all of my time.

I love how into the whole thing Aerith’s VA is. She’s very active on YouTube and she’s great.

Well I hope that in the end you enjoy it with just some caveats at least. Though an ending can ruin the rest retroactively, judging by fan reactions I don’t think this is the case. Those most disappointed still say stuff like 90% of the game is great, but the dementors”. I’m still interested to see where they’ll go with this down the line, and I hope your sensibilities don’t get offended to the point of frustration

Meanwhile, I beat the Great Bay Temple which wasn’t actually that bad. It was pretty enjoyable in fact. Except for Gyorg who can smurf right off.

I for one welcome the weirdness :P My feelings on the matter haven’t really changed to be honest - I know a lot of it is stupid but somehow I just don’t really care and it doesn’t offend me to the extent the compilation did. Maybe it’s because the compilation just already conditioned me to accept it. Maybe seeing the tone be more joyful and energetic like the original game rather than the grimness of the compilation is what makes it okay for me. Maybe I’m just happy the most devoted FFVII fanboys are getting absolutely trolled. I dunno. I can’t speak for how padded the game feels yet, all I know is I really want to play it and that I’m happy they’re just going in a different direction.

But of course, I also understand your frustrations with it. In general I also feel the best way to rewrite FFVII is to fix its flaws and maybe do some intertextuality bullcrap in a more subtle way. But hey, maybe not everything needs to be subtle and that’s ok? Like I can see how FFVIIR for me will be sonething that I really enjoy but not exactly sonething that sticks with me on a deeper emotional level. I may prefer games that do the latter, but I think personally I’m fine with Nomura, Toriyama and Nojima indulging in their pretentious side for once. Especially since some parts of the original are genuinely enhanced in one way or another.

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-25-2020 at 12:43 AM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 02:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 03:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

by Wolf Kanno on 01-30-2020 at 09:17 PM
You know the drillÖ

I mentioned this in my Chain of Memories entry for my Top 100 List, but Kingdom Hearts and I have a really awkward history with each other. This is a franchise that has always been more of a guilty pleasure for me than something I actively love. Funny enough, itís not even the basic premise that bothers me. While Final Fantasy meets Disney mash-up sounds contrived, KH has always managed to make it work since this

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra

by Wolf Kanno on 12-30-2019 at 10:56 PM
Top 100 List Blah blah blahÖ. I ended up re-writing this entry because the original was a little more bitter and more like just a genuine rant than a review. With that said, a little backstory is in order.

Continuing my trend of snubbed entries in franchises, we now come back to a series that was very near and dear to me. At this point in time, the story of
