I mean, they still have to make sense culturally speaking. From what I’ve seen, some puns in the Japanese version are very much a Japan-only thing that would go over our heads, so they make up something that will resonate far more. We can hate on puns all we want, but imo it’s hard to deny the creative effort that went into these localizations.

So how’s the writing coming along? I’m managing to write every day, even if it’s just a little. Of course, I can’t help but feel that everything I write is crap, but I’m pushing through. I really want to reach that editing stage.

As a translator, I can guarantee that’s not how that works. Puns by their nature are untranslatable. You have to come up with new ones.

So today I learned that Richard Honeywood, Xenogears’ sole translator, was responsible for the localization if DQVIII and the DS remakes. So we have him to thank for the new DQ localization standard :P

Just write a bit and see what sticks.

Well, I got a boost of confidence from the contest, so I got a burst of speed. Don’t know if I’ll have a beta draft by the end of the year, but that’s my goal! Bro’s started Xenogears, so we’ll hopefully get the comic rolling soon too. I’m also thinking of submitting the story to a contest with an actual prize so who knows, maybe I’ll get published again?

    How about your stuff?

Thanks. My thought process was kinda all over the place with this, really. When I started writing this, I was super hyped, then as I progressed I started feeling that it was getting less and less scary, but then once I was done, I was really happy with it. I’m glad I haven’t lost my edge when it comes to shorts.

Heh, I knew it. I liked that one a lot!

Can’t believe I finally won one of these contests! :O

Btw, which one was yours? I’m betting it was the one with the bump, since that felt very much like your style, but who knows, you may have surprised me.

Aah ^^ was wondering since Nocturne is so high up on your favorites list.

I think a lot of sci fi authors are hard to adapt. I have yet to see an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s wow that actually captures that schizophrenic narrative style that’s a staple of his writing. The director’s cut of Blade Runner comes the closest, but something is still missing. It might be that it’s just untranslatable to film

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Dragon Quest VII

I feel like the year 2001 was an odd year in gaming. One of the first time where you really felt like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one was coming. Sony was gearing up to release the successor to the smash hit PlayStation and if you looked around the gaming scene, it seemed like every company was jumping ship to get on board what the PS2 could do. Square had released their PS1 swan song FFIX even though they would still support the PS1 with

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Arc the Lad II

You know the drill by now...

One of my all time favorite publishers in the 90s for video games was Working Designs. It was a company that actually tried to get a lot of cool JRPGs released in the West long before the actual JRPG boom in the last years of the decade. I've already spoken about their most high profile title they ever worked on, Lunar: The Silver Star Story,

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Final Fantasy III

by Wolf Kanno on 03-07-2018 at 09:10 PM
Blah blah blah Top 100 blah blah blah too many good games to list. Blah blah blah, games that weren't good enough for my list but still excellent nonetheless.

*******************************************************************************

Of the Classic series within Final Fantasy, FFIII was the last one for me to play, partly cause I didn't emulate very often and partly because I had hoped SE would come to their senses and re-release this title.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: I am Setsuna

by Wolf Kanno on 02-23-2018 at 07:38 AM
So I did my Top 100 last year, and this year, I'm focusing on a few entries that didn't make the cut for one reason or another. I'll start off by saying that most of the games mentioned in this blog series are all worth playing, they simply just haven't enraptured me enough to place them on my List. I started with Demon's Souls, and i have about 24 more entries to go. I know I said it would be like four or five, but giving myself some time to think about it made me realize how many great games I

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Demon's Souls

by Wolf Kanno on 01-22-2018 at 04:23 AM
So as many people know, last year I did my Top 100 Games list, but as usual, there were a lot of games I loved that just didn't make the mark for one reason or another. I didn't really want to make a thread about it though, and figured the Blog would suit it better because there is likely only five or six games I wish to highlight here. I also feel annoyed I never use the Blog feature as much since it feels like a better platform for these types of discussions. In addition to these blogs, I do plan
