Ooh, that is interesting! I think one of two things may have happened. Either it’s what you said and Mitsuda composed the tracks with a better sound font and had to later change them a bit to fit the SNES sound font, or the actual soundtrack is as we know it, but someone was tasked with making high quality arrangements for the promo cassette. I was leaning more to the former until I heard the battle theme, which sounds significantly different, with way more focus on the percussion rather than the bass. The other tracks sound pretty much the same just with all the virtual instruments replaced with more convincing samples.

One thing I also noticed is that everything sounds higher too? Like I’m pretty much there’s an entire half step worth of difference. Though this one is probably actually really boring because it’s most likely that this is a result of the cassette being old and the sound being distorted lol

I’ll still probably give them a shot since it sounds interesting. What’s intimidating is that the Front Mission story feels so vast and it’s hard to acquire bits of the story, but I hope I can take that plunge eventually

So how necessary do you think reading all the non-game materials is to really enjoy FM’s story? Like everything you say sounds very cool, but there’s also so much of it I’m a bit worried I’ll end up getting lost lol

Also, on an unrelated note, I’ve just learned about this game. Inspired by Beksiński’s art and with Akira Yamaoka as composer, feels like this is something I should keep on my radar

Lol I mean, to everyone else in the world everything east of Germany is basically Russia anyway

Interesting. I’ll definitely want to jump back in at some point but I’m not sure if I’ll have access to any other titles aside from the DS one

Interesting. I heard that it’s a multimedia franchise but it looks like they really prepared for everything. I wonder how they managed to convince Squarry that this was an idea worth investing in

It’s been pretty chill so far, judging by the stream reactions lol. Nothing special has really happened yet, I’m gonna be going into the desert today. The philosophical themes in the side quests aren’t exactly subtle lol

Yup, I’m aware. I’m probably just go in with freelancers (everyone has already mastered Blue Mage) with blue magic so that they can quickly learn Condemn and destroy him with l3 flare

So it’s possible I’ll be streaming today too, and tomorrow if not. So if you’d ever like to join in, my twitch handle is fynnsterp. See you there whenever

In FFV news, I’m pretty much about to fight Exdeath at the end of world 2, but I just remembered about the level 5 death exploit on the Objets d’Arte in Castle Bal, so I’m taking this opportunity to grind out a few job levels.

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
