Yeah, I can have fun with a so-so game if it brings other entertainment value. There's also an inherent bit of curiosity for what a Robotech game would entail. That and the thing you said about the original cast being put in vastly different roles caught my attention. One question though: if the cast is different, was that a Lisa lookalike in the screenshots you posted?

Jojolion's my personal favorite part; it's REALLY weird, but I think it does away with a lot of the pacing issues I've had with previous Parts. I'll admit that my opinions might be horribly skewed though, I've been going through the series completely out of order. I watched the first 2 parts, then read the beginning of each Part because I was curious about each Jojo's personality. 8 was so instantly entertaining to me I kinda... didn't stop reading until I reached a point where knowledge of Part 7 seemed relevant. I've been catching up on Parts 3-6 in between Part 8 releases.

Terribly! I'm in the first dungeon, Lolithia's tomb, and I'm stuck already. I'm wandering around like a lost child but I refuse to check a guide this early on. I might be here for a least I'm levelling up a bit xD

EDIT: OH WAIT. I might be getting somewhere! Found a ledge I could fall off to press a button that bring some purple barriers down.

EDIT 2: That wasn't the right button, but it got me a crest graph anyway. I HAVE found the right button now, though...took me quite a while figuring out I had to use Hanpan for it!

EDIT 3: I defeated the boss in the tomb I really like the mixture of puzzles so far and the way you switch between the three characters using their tools.

Not just that. The game has been huge and I'm happy to see the end of the journey. I can always return to it if I ever feel like it.

Im actually looking forward to it.

We need more game stories about the human condition. The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone (the shorter of two expansions) storyline is up there, being one of the best constructed gaming narratives I've played in recent years

Ooh, cool, i heard the Witcher does it too. You can sleep around with whomever, but if you lead on the two main romance options romantically, not just sexually, you end up with neither and they humiliate you.

It's great that they integrated the main theme of the game into the mechanic though! Sounds really refreshing.

It's really rare for games to really pull romances off well. I usually prefer a pre-established romance since usually it feels pretty like "pick the set of characteristics you like in a partner" but in Persona it really felt like it was done well, mostly because you get to spend so much time learning about the characters and their internal struggles, making them rounded people before making them into boning-material. The Witcher doesn't do it through so much exposure, but it has the benefit of being an established canon with all the major romance options having history with the main character, as well as Geralt not being a mute blank slate but his own character (that you can still influence to a degree). So there's really more opportunity for the writing to flourish, and the writers definitely took their chance because all the romance options feel like they could work, mostly thanks to very strong characterization of both Geralt and all the romance options.

So how well do you feel the romance aspect of P5 was executed?

Fighting Evil by Moonlight...

by Wolf Kanno on 06-14-2016 at 08:21 AM
So tonight I finally broke out a Christmas present I received several years ago that I never watched. Partly because for the first time in a long time, I felt ready for it. I acquired a DVD set that featured the entire DiC dub of the first two seasons of Sailor Moon, so basically the original dub, not the new one. Original Western score, Sailor Says, and the whole "Serena and Darien" name changes.

It was glorious.

Defining Gaming as Art

by Wolf Kanno on 02-23-2016 at 06:49 AM
This was going to have a subtitle, but they all sounded like pretentious academic papers and that kind of goes against the point of all of this.

So recently I began reading a very in-depth article series about two series worked on by one of the more influential game designers/writers in my life, Tetsuya Takahashi. I'll leave it up to Google for you to figure out why. Anyway, it was mostly a really well written and interesting analysis of the works and I actually learn a few things

Neon Lights, Large soda, and a handful of quarters...

by Wolf Kanno on 08-01-2015 at 09:07 AM
So lately I've been reminded of one of my life goals was that I wanted to one day build my own arcade for myself. Get all the games I grew up on and just have a fun little place devoted to letting me play through the classics and relieve the arcade scene I grew up in. I've been discussing this with friends as we try to create a list of the games we would add to the arcade. Of course there would be the classics like Galaga, Gauntlet, Pac-Man, Paperboy, Frogger, and Dig Dug but I also thought about

Trying to remember a feeling.

by Wolf Kanno on 11-04-2014 at 09:02 AM
Normally I really hate writing personal posts like this but my strong dislike of EoEO and the fact this topic doesn't feel quite "EoEO material" as well as posting it in the Writing Forum felt weird because it's a bit too personal and I feel that forum should stick to its primary focus.

So recently I came upon some writer's block with a novel I am working on and so I decided to shift gears and work on a different story instead until I recharge and have a chance to step back

That Game Company Collection

by Wolf Kanno on 03-29-2014 at 09:06 PM
Haven't done a blog in ages and I wanted to talk about this without starting a thread.

So I picked up the That Game Company Collection set a while back and finally last December I played through it. I'm not going to bother discussing the cell phones style games cause... yeah... I'll simply focus on the Big 3 that everyone bought the set for.

flOw - Is and interesting game with some cool dynamics to it. It's pretty short but I'm a busy person and so this is actually a
