I still enjoy the crazy violins

Btw, I’m at the orphanage now and I have an ether doubler! Aerods are fun

I actually really enjoy most of his battle themes, except CT’s regular battle. Sure, he goes all out with the more important boss fights, but I really enjoy that subtle constant-tension loop in Xenogears’ battle themr

Yeah, JRPGs need more battle tracks. The only thing I’m dreading about Xenoblade X is the fact that Black Tar is the only normal battle theme. And I like Black Tar.

Also, I just noticed something very interesting about the Xenogears battle theme. I know a lot of people hate it for some reason, but I really dig it. When you listen to it, it gives you the impression of going in circles with a constant buildup of tension but no clear resolution. And this is done in typical Mitsuda, non-functional fashion - there is no tonic. The chords build tension but never get resolved. Pre-dominants become dominants which become pre-dominants again, and this really keeps you on your toes throughout because there really isn’t a moment where you can just take a moment to relax. It’s glorious.

Okay so I just watched the Millennium crossover episode and at the very end, Scully and Mulder finally got together. And I think they actually did a good job on this because the next episode is all about the paranormal mystery and nobody really mentions what’s happened, but you can see the subtle difference in how they y’all to each other. I think they were really worried they’d alienate the non-shipping fan base and ultimately, I think the approach they took really works.

I remember my mom watching both series religiously. I was also scared of both as a kid

Working on a reply for you btw! Should have it ready by tomorrow

Yeah, I get that, but I feel like that’s all still there. Like, the season 6 finale/season 7 premiere three-parter was awesome with its ancient astronaut plot line coming in. Felt really fitting now that I’m playing Xenogears And really, up to season five, I agreed with you but with how endearing season six was, the progression to romance really feels natural.

We watched one episode of Millennium and while it was cool, we decided we really wanna keep watching X-files, so we’ll leave that for another time

Okay so we just finished season six and started season seven, though we’ll probably take a break here to watch Millennium. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the season. It really didn’t have a lot of bad or boring episodes - like, two at most. The best thing was that pretty much every episode, from the mythology to the MOTW episodes, had a more or less overt focus on Mulder and Scully’s feelings for each other. Whether it’s characters being parallels to how they should just get it on already themselves or just seeing how much their bond transcends pretty much anything else seen on TV, whether you interpret it as romantic or not (and I really can’t see how you could see it as anything but that at this point, and I was a Mulder-Scully-romance-skeptic from day one), I loved it so much and I feel CHEATED that they didn’t bring us a resolution to that in the finale/7thbseason premiere. I really hope that they do get together pretty soon because I don’t think another season so brimming with sexual tension would impress me as much as this one.

I just beat the sewers and thought they were pretty fun, actually! I have no idea where that criticism comes from.

Really jealous you got Ravness, since she looks really cool and I love that she’s an Agrias expy but she sadly does in the non-law routes

It’s true. You can tell the team was inexperienced but they still did a hell of a good job making a game that’s really immersive and just gets you hooked. I’m currently in Nortune and Rico has just joined me to clear the sewers.

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
