There’s a couple ways to approach it, I think. We could cover them all in order then compare and contrast, we could talk about who we consider the best and worst band go from there. Or we could set up some criteria, like charisma, fear, kill count, etc. and have a little fun with it by assigning points. I guess it depends on how structured we want it to be. Like do we want it to be more scripted and closer to a video essay, or would it be better for it to be more free-form and podcasts?

Also, I just realized that Ardyn covers another layer of FNC themes in XV. He’s also chosen by the crystal and his fate is unavoidable, just like Noctis’. He’s a warrior of darkness. The twist being that he was chosen by the same crystal as the warrior of light, his power was forced on him instead of resulting from his list for power, and he himself isn’t really aligned with the darkness - or the Starscourge - other than that he’s destined to use that power so that it can be banished once and for all. The more I think about him and Niflheim’s descent to darkness, and how both parties would’ve probably been better off had they not encountered each other. Seems like tragedy really is stitched into the very fiber of FFXV, huh

Hey so making the Ardyn thread has reminded me that we were planning an FF Villain talk that never got recorded. Perhaps we should fix that one day

I think the one thing that can be argued was changed for the worse is that the vocal version of Somnus no longer plays during your entire visit to Insomnia. Granted, the new arrangement fits what they added, but the original choice was so perfect. Still, I feel that if you liked the vanilla version in the first place, the Royal upgrade should make it even better for you

So I beat Episode Ardyn yesterday. Still have Comrades and the post-game left, but I’m slowly but surely beating the end of my FFXV journey. Honestly, it really was worth the wait for me, especially considering his much more complete the game is now

Tell me about it. I had to delete a ton of stuff to even fit the game on my PC. Gonna have to delete it right after I’m done with it lol.

Eh, I get why Soul Hackers wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I liked it a lot but it has definitely not aged well and it can be a bit hard to get hooked on it sometimes. It was one of the biggest inspirations behind my fanfic idea (which will still see the light of day in some way, shape or form someday), so it did definitely leave a mark. DDS is amazing though, absolutely one of my favs. I’m low-key hoping Nocturne HD means we’ll be getting more remasters of the PS2 megaten games, so fingers crossed for DDS and the Raidou games specifically!

I still need to get into SMT2. I know it’s not hard to find, but I’m just having a very hard time finding the time to actually get into it.

Yeah, a lot of the exposition on the emperor and how he’s the daemon stalking the fortress is done through Chapter 13 Verse 2 - which is honestly a better Episode Gladio than Episode Gladio. It also further expands on Ravus which, combined with Episode Ignis - really helps complete his character arc and make his story really tragic in a meaningful way. Right in this whole thing I just wrote is the biggest flaw of FFXV - the story is incredibly splintered piecing it all together in a way that will leave a proper impact is hard even when it is finally complete (though it’s still much easier).

But yeah, I also liked chapter 13 for the change of pace it brought. The Ring of the Lucii is also super great and I loved playing around with it. Looking forward to playing with adult Noctis today!

So now that I’m back from my vacation, I got back into FFXV and am almost done. Will probably get into more detail in the thread but the legendarily hated chapter 13 didn’t really bother me at all, but that’s likely because they’re actually worked on improving it a lot. World of Ruin here I come!

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
