Lol yeah I'd imagine. Our society kinda has a real bad complex about intelligence. Like I'll be frank, I really don't think it's invalid to compare mental aptitude to physical aptitude. Some people have it more than others, and people like Schwarzenegger are on the far top end of the spectrum. It wouldn't be a contentious thing to claim that Schwarzenegger is probably better equipped to lift heavy weights than most people. And yet if you even *dare* imply that people may not be qualified to have a meaningful opinion on important issues, it's "offensive" and "insulting". Dunno, it's just people bloating their egos (which, mind you, really doesn't come as a surprise in a society where you are essentially expected to do so to even just get a job).

So I’ve just watched the video you sent me. It was pretty cool. It still amazes me how there are people so bent on authorial intent, the writers themselves included, that they refuse to acknowledge that there might be something in there that they didn’t intend. Just like we convey meaning in everyday life through various unconscious cues, often communicating things we never intended, it’s pretty obvious that this will happen through fiction too.

It's a form vs substance thing I suppose, and due to that I view it as a short term vs long term thing. Short term yeah having more allies for a noble goal is a good thing. But I think it's still valuable to recognize that long term, even just the mindset that it doesn't matter is *inevitably* empowering people who can push their own profits while selling to you that they're doing the right thing to reach/remain at the top, whereas people who would take a hit to themselves for the greater good are conversely disempowered.

Mind you, while I certainly don't like that, this is more an observation than a normative claim. I don't think any sort of "people should be different" idea is suitable for politics. Part of the reason I don't believe in democracy, people aren't just going to responsibly inform themselves and cast a good vote because they should, and the same thing about empowering people who can sell to you that they're doing the right thing also applies to it.

Does it really matter that Marvel/Disney is just doing it for the money?
A fascinating question to ask. I don't have much to add to the topic in question given I don't watch Marvel much anymore but now I'm curious if you think it matters or if it really doesn't matter at all ^^

Hey just wanted to say thanks for linking to that song by Anri because I'm now a fan! She even recorded an album with Bill Bruford on drums - I was surprised.

It's a fantasy novel! A multiple POV one. It's about a frozen world where people have to hunt down and then sacrifice dragons for warmth. So my crew goes on an adventure and finds out there's more corruption and whatnot than they were told. Fun stuff.

Yeah I just said, smurf it, I like this, others enjoyed it, let's just send it out! Still hard to get form rejections though. Specially when you just put so much of yourself into it. I haven't done anything for contests but I probably should, maybe it'll help me get through some of this stuff with agents.

Still unemployed. Going on 8 months now so that's fun. I'm taking classes but the lack of income and the lack of people calling me back is wearing me down a lot.

I did finish a novel a few months back. Started sending it out to agents this month. Got 4 rejections back already but it's not really a surprise.

By the way, I found this the other day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2Mi_USWhPc

Interesting to me that both of them consider Vaan to be their favorite character. Think next time I play I'll try to watch out for how his presence affects the other party members' own development, I never really felt like that was too pronounced.

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
