I mean, technically, he did the initial designs and they were later translated to a more anime-friendly style by someone else, but they're faithful enough that, going into this film blind, I immediately thought "wait a minute - that looks so much like Yoshida's stuff"

The poster reminded my that I saw an anime movie over the Christmas break that I thought might intrigue you slightly, as it has character art by Akihiko Yoshida, and nothing really puts me in a better fantasy mood than his work. The movie itself was pretty much the best of the anime films we watched over the break (and there were quite a few), with a story that's, interestingly, all about motherhood. Not exactly something you see in fantasy often.

Sorry for the very late reply. No problem. I hope to find articles like this for the other games I-IX or least I-VI.

Mmh I don't think I was active around here when those GBA ports hit the scene. They were what introduced me to IV, V and VI though so hey, guess they did their job ^^

Well it's a hobby project, not a job or anything, so progress is entirely dependent on motivation which is, uh, fickle, and while I called it a team and it was more of one at the time I joined, we've dropped down to being just two people nowadays. I don't know if it's much about fortitude as much as it's just something I can do and rather enjoy doing. I dunno, I guess I don't feel particularly special about it or anything, and I myself rather envy people who can write stories or make art ^^

Curious now what kind of designs you come up with =P

Well my brother introduced me to Diablo II and Warcraft III when I was very young, and while I played some Diablo II, and I ended up trying WoW for like a week or so (while my brother has absurd hours on it), it's Warcraft III that left the biggest impact on me. Whether it's my 'favorite game' is hard to say but it's doubtlessly the most important game to me. No matter if I take breaks from it, I always return to it sooner or later, that game - or more specifically, its custom game scene - has been basically a constant presence in my entire life. It introduced me to game programming and I don't doubt it's had a huge hand in me eventually turning software engineer. Even nowadays I'm working on creating a map for it, a Final Fantasy inspired open RPG for up to 8 players as a Warcraft III map (although I didn't create it from the ground up, I joined the dev team late and became lead dev a while ago) and I easily find myself playing hours upon hours of another map weekly.

Never got into Starcraft but heard SC2 is Blizzard's high point in terms of story - and from what I heard of it I definitely believe it. I hope to play through that whole campaign at some point. Not really planning on delving deep into WoW or Diablo anymore though; I feel like Blizzard had their high point and it's already passed. But I doubt I'll ever just lose my fondness for Warcraft III. It's a peerless, timeless game to me. I do hope the Reforged rerelease brings new players into the folds though ^^

Heya ^^ not sure if I asked you this before, but what's your history with Blizzard games if I may ask?

Good to hear that it’s coming along nicely. And yeah, voice is super hard to nail down.

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Dragon Quest VII

by Wolf Kanno on 10-26-2018 at 06:42 AM

I feel like the year 2001 was an odd year in gaming. One of the first time where you really felt like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one was coming. Sony was gearing up to release the successor to the smash hit PlayStation and if you looked around the gaming scene, it seemed like every company was jumping ship to get on board what the PS2 could do. Square had released their PS1 swan song FFIX even though they would still support the PS1 with

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Arc the Lad II

You know the drill by now...

*******************************************************************************

One of my all time favorite publishers in the 90s for video games was Working Designs. It was a company that actually tried to get a lot of cool JRPGs released in the West long before the actual JRPG boom in the last years of the decade. I've already spoken about their most high profile title they ever worked on, Lunar: The Silver Star Story,

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Final Fantasy III

by Wolf Kanno on 03-07-2018 at 09:10 PM
Blah blah blah Top 100 blah blah blah too many good games to list. Blah blah blah, games that weren't good enough for my list but still excellent nonetheless.

*******************************************************************************

Of the Classic series within Final Fantasy, FFIII was the last one for me to play, partly cause I didn't emulate very often and partly because I had hoped SE would come to their senses and re-release this title.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: I am Setsuna

by Wolf Kanno on 02-23-2018 at 07:38 AM
So I did my Top 100 last year, and this year, I'm focusing on a few entries that didn't make the cut for one reason or another. I'll start off by saying that most of the games mentioned in this blog series are all worth playing, they simply just haven't enraptured me enough to place them on my List. I started with Demon's Souls, and i have about 24 more entries to go. I know I said it would be like four or five, but giving myself some time to think about it made me realize how many great games I

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Demon's Souls

by Wolf Kanno on 01-22-2018 at 04:23 AM
So as many people know, last year I did my Top 100 Games list, but as usual, there were a lot of games I loved that just didn't make the mark for one reason or another. I didn't really want to make a thread about it though, and figured the Blog would suit it better because there is likely only five or six games I wish to highlight here. I also feel annoyed I never use the Blog feature as much since it feels like a better platform for these types of discussions. In addition to these blogs, I do plan
