Yeah, I'm lagging as well. Part of the problem is that I don't have full access to my keyboard because my wife is playing The Witcher But, if anything good's come out of it so far, is that I think I've overcome the blockade that I had and I'm actually finally making decent progress. If all goes well, I might just finish the first draft before Christmas.

    Crazy stuff!

So anyway, how's NaNoWriMo treating you?

A bit. I got to the point where I got Sabin, but then I found I still wanted to play FFTA and I'm actually halfway to catching up to my lost progress. I wasn't that far in. And I'm actually doing even better than before this time around. So yeah, still gonna be trying to do both, at least until my FFTA mojo runs out

It's interesting that this is the second time something like this has happened to me. Last time it was Xenoblade Chronicles, but that was much worse because I was really near the end of the game. Maybe I'm just cursed or something.

Welp, just accidentally gently hit my DS with my finger as I was saving and my entire FFTA file got erased.

I mean, maybe annoying is a bit too strong of a word, and I agree that he's amusing... in moderation. So yeah, I'm also worried about how he'all work as a party member. And yeah, that Dhoulmagus addition is cool, but I was honestly pretty content with what we got.

What I really don't like is that added new ending where you can marry Jessica... I mean, to me personally one of the coolest thing about her was that she was not the love interest despite being the only girl in the group. Not to mention that kind of wrecks not only one but potentially two canon pairings?

I agree that VII's cast was really cool, especially at the beginning where you were just these three kids that no one have any respect. Then Ruff was incredibly fun, but though I still really like Sir Mervyn and Aishe, I don't think they fit into the party as well as the other three. I also kinda wish they didn't join so late in the game, Aishe especially.

VIII's cast just has really good chemistry, owing largely to the fact that they stick together from the beginning to the end and it's just them throughout. Even individually, they're all incredibly likeable. Like you said yourself, Yangus is great because there's really nothing like him both in the DQ series and the JRPG genre as a whole. I also really like Jessica, even despite her overtly fanservice'y appearance. She's just a really cool character with a really memorable personality and motivation, and I like how she's just a much more balanced take one The thundered trope. (I also kinda hate how the fandom treats her because I swear every video review I see says something that amounts to "your party consists of these three characters and a sentient pair of breasts" which is just terrible). Angelo was also pretty cool and his tragic backstory actually inspired many characters I've created in the past.

So because of this, I'm kind of both excited and worried about the addition of Morrie and Red to the party. Mostly because I always found Morrie to be pretty annoying.

I get that. I kind of need to get VIII, though, since I really rarely have access to my PS2 nowadays and since I've become so hooked on the series I've kind of made it a point for myself to own them all on handhelds Also, I just love the portability and aim looking forward to the enhancements.

And playing the other games in the series has really made me appreciate VIII more from what I remember of it (I've actually managed to beat most of it, even got to beat Dhoulmagus and know that it was the scepter all along. From hindsight, I think what really made it stand out from all the other DQs was not only the world, but also the characters who were all memorable and fun. The villain was probably the most interesting in the whole series since he actually had a backstory and even more twists to his identity than Ogrodemir. Though if you count Paarl, then he's the most developed, but I'm pretty sure that's only true for the remake?

Especially VI, since you haven't played it. And I think it's still my favorite.

And it looks like the world is still there, even if the graphics are slightly downgraded compared to the PS2 version. I will still definitely buy it, day-one even. It comes out on January 20th and I am so happy to finally have a tangible release date!

Ugh... Just watched the first English trailer for DQVIII 3DS aaaand... the music in it is all synth. This does not bode well...

Also, they apparently changed Jessica's voice actress, but I don't mind since the new one sounds just as good. And Yangus is as awesome as ever.

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

by Wolf Kanno on 01-30-2020 at 08:17 PM
You know the drill…

I mentioned this in my Chain of Memories entry for my Top 100 List, but Kingdom Hearts and I have a really awkward history with each other. This is a franchise that has always been more of a guilty pleasure for me than something I actively love. Funny enough, it’s not even the basic premise that bothers me. While Final Fantasy meets Disney mash-up sounds contrived, KH has always managed to make it work since this
