Idk, I actually really like LUCT's take on the job system. But that's just me.

Thing is, I think FFT is really as dark, and even darker in some respects, especially being much harder with its ending. You can tell TO's a bit rushed by how Chapter 4 is the same regardless of route, and while a degree of player choice and variety was lost by Ramza's path being laid out for you, I feel overall the narrative is more polished, even if it does drop most of the politics in favor of a supernatural threat. Though it's not like TO doesn't have the supernatural elements do that to a small degree as well at times.

It definitely does that. I like how you can see where FFT got a lot of its things from, and yet how different some other aspects are.

Honestly, thanks to the World Tarot, you can actually complete all the routes after the first one, so you can keep playing until you're all done with Matsuno for a while

Yeah, after finishing the Witcher books for a second time, I really had to convince myself not to replay the games at once

I mean, we may have exchanged some words here and there, but that was about the time I actually started posting and getting responses from people. Still, it wasn't until about 2010 that I really got things moving here.

It helps that this is really my first serious attempt after my initial playthough, after ten years. It's so much better than replaying the same game over and over. I think my problem with FF stems from the fact that I never gave it enough space to really reach that nostalgia level in my head

Still, this is making me so nostalgic!

Flash back to like, 2007 or something. I start playing Xenogears for the first time and get quite far in. But then I'm having trouble with some deathblows unlocking. So I log on to EoFF to actually write a post instead of lurking constantly and feeling too self-conscious to contribute. So I ask how to unlock those damn final few deathblows of Elly's, and who replies? Why, Wolf Kanno, helping a brother out like a pro

The sprites could use some work, tbh, but otherwise this game really looks better than I remember. But that may be because I played it on a PSP the last time and on the Vita this time around.

The 3D models are actually really impressive. Just fought the dinosaur and damn, I had to remind myself that this came out around the time FFVII did because that thing still holds up, especially compared to VII's rather featureless models

I'll get to a detailed reply to your mognet message later today since I'm quite busy at work But just wanted to let you know that the X-Files movie was really cool and while season 6 is notably different, I dig it? I do kind of miss the tension of previous seasons, but the way the episodes focus on Scully and Mulder's budding feelings for each other are actually pretty sweet. I do enjoy character-centric narratives, after all, adn as much as I wish we had an iconic tv series that really did put a platonic man/woman friendship at the forefront, these two really make sense as a couple to me.

And I did end up starting Xenogears yesterday, woo! At Blackmoon Forest so far, got Elly. I forgot how super fluid the battles look. it's as if they're running and one million frames per second. In general, the game is much prettier than I remember and I am loving it so much

Oh, I do agree. Which is why I kind of plan to implement a certain twist that will make the races a bit less conventional.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Arc the Lad II

by Wolf Kanno on 03-27-2018 at 10:53 PM
You know the drill by now...

*******************************************************************************

One of my all time favorite publishers in the 90s for video games was Working Designs. It was a company that actually tried to get a lot of cool JRPGs released in the West long before the actual JRPG boom in the last years of the decade. I've already spoken about their most high profile title they ever worked on, Lunar: The Silver Star Story,

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Final Fantasy III

by Wolf Kanno on 03-07-2018 at 08:10 PM
Blah blah blah Top 100 blah blah blah too many good games to list. Blah blah blah, games that weren't good enough for my list but still excellent nonetheless.

*******************************************************************************

Of the Classic series within Final Fantasy, FFIII was the last one for me to play, partly cause I didn't emulate very often and partly because I had hoped SE would come to their senses and re-release this title.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: I am Setsuna

by Wolf Kanno on 02-23-2018 at 06:38 AM
So I did my Top 100 last year, and this year, I'm focusing on a few entries that didn't make the cut for one reason or another. I'll start off by saying that most of the games mentioned in this blog series are all worth playing, they simply just haven't enraptured me enough to place them on my List. I started with Demon's Souls, and i have about 24 more entries to go. I know I said it would be like four or five, but giving myself some time to think about it made me realize how many great games I

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Demon's Souls

by Wolf Kanno on 01-22-2018 at 03:23 AM
So as many people know, last year I did my Top 100 Games list, but as usual, there were a lot of games I loved that just didn't make the mark for one reason or another. I didn't really want to make a thread about it though, and figured the Blog would suit it better because there is likely only five or six games I wish to highlight here. I also feel annoyed I never use the Blog feature as much since it feels like a better platform for these types of discussions. In addition to these blogs, I do plan

Mononoke Hime

by Wolf Kanno on 11-08-2017 at 01:25 AM

A few days ago, I went to a midnight showing of Princess Mononoke at the Esquire Theater downtown. The very same theater I went to watch it the first time back in 1999 during it's initial release in the States. At that time, I was an avid anime fan who would consume whatever I could find as the medium was only in the beginning phases of it's explosive popularity in the 2000s, so the prospect of being able to watch an anime flick in an actual movie
