Tell me about it. Gaming backlogs suck. And that’s very much a first world problem

It’s not that bad She’s got a bit of a cold but she got a doctor’s note anyway because she’s rather protect her health now for... reasons

Man you keep bringing up Matsuno in your threads and I only keep getting reminded how much the Witcher reminded me of it when I played it. It looks like I may need to make a deal with Lucifuge and exchange my eye for your wanting to get into the series

X is great so far, I just wish I had more time. The holiday break really spoiled me

I think I may have a solid idea for a story so if things go well, I might write it today. Then again, my wife got sick so that changes plans

I used to do that and had a good run for like a year, but then I stopped and I don’t really know why. Probably because my blog was visited by a whopping one person. Hope I can return to that, though.

So far, I’m actually enjoying the silent avatar. I’m coming into it pretty much expecting this is going to be Elma’s story and I’m just a viewpoint character, and I really think that’s fine. I do kind of regret I’m going into this game after playing The Witcher 3. Mira may be a very imaginative world, and it’s a single map which is incredibly impressive, but after the Witcher’s meticulous attention to detail (including the fact that the game world was pretty much fantasy Poland and that gave me a very special feeling) as well as the very realistic character motions, it’s kind of a step back, but I’ll probably get used to it soon. TW3 was also amazing when it comes to side quests, while I heard X is much more the standard open world JRPG/MMORPG “bring 30 bear asses” quest structure, so I just hope this doesn’t bother me too much.

Did I mention the Witcher has probably ruined gaming for me? Almost half a year has passed and I’m still comparing every open world game I play to it

I’m not really far in X yet, since I didn’t really have the time to sink my teeth into it, but I like it so far and my only real criticism is that the game is huge with a ton of different mechanics and informations that you’re kind of overwhelmed with from the start without any real explanation on what it all means. The first game was fairly simple and clean by comparison, but I hope I’ll get used to it.

Glad to hear work on your novel is progressing! I guess we’ll discuss these things more in detail once I get back to the magnet conversation (which WILL happen, I promise!) My holidays were much better than expected and I’m beginning the new year in good spirits. I had a chance to really unwind and the fact that I managed to get the Wii U to my new home in one piece is just the cherry on top. It’s also a turned out to be a blessing I disguise that I don’t have a separate tab and have to plug the console into my PC monitor, since now I sit closer to the screen and can read every bit of that tiny text perfectly

My main New Year’s resolution mainly involves writing. I’ll do my best to get back to writing and posting a weekly short story again, just to really start working on my skills again and flex those creative muscles (also, Neil Gaiman has kind of reminded me why I love shorts as a form in the first place), and I definitely want to at least finish the first draft of my current novel by the end of the year. Here’s hoping I can keep it up.

Hey, sorry for taking so long - holidays! Happy New Year, btw, and I hope you had a relatively peaceful Christmas, at least

Can’t remember the pirate dude but I remember Ozma being great and one of the biggest draws of the Law path along with Ravness.

Meanwhile, I just finished Xenogears this morning. I ended up storming Deus without taking down any of the pillars and ended up beating it fairly easily while taking all its elements out would’ve been incredibly time-consuming. Also, looking at the majority of opinions on the internet, I must be some kind of Xenogears hipster because I enjoyed both Babel Tower and D Block, but felt that everything about Maria’s arc was underwhelming and pretty lame, with the track “Wings” being CRIMINALLY overrated. It starts off nice and cool but then just goes and loops around the main melody, which is definitely not Mitsuda at his finest, to say the least. Also, screw the Thames for being pointless padding in an already huge game.

Continuing the hipster trend, I actually really appreciate discord 2 the way it is. Not only do the best parts of the story happen here, they progress quickly with very little padding and the buildup to the end is immense because of that. Not to mention it also helped reduce end-game fatigue, so instead of feeling like shouting “when will this end” at the game, it felt like I spent just the right amount of time with the game. I also don’t feel like a Lacan game is necessary or even has enough material to be interesting, tbh - it’s basically just an arc that’s part of Fei and Elly’s backstory and I feel that the game spends just enough time on it to make it all meaningful.

But yeah, Xenogears is great and I still love it very much and I’m glad I played it again. And now that I’ve kidnapped my brother’s Wii U, finally, I can jump right into Xenoblade Chronicles X after work today!

You gonna post your thoughts on choices as well? ^^

Okay so Babel Tower wasn’t nearly as bad as I remembered

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
