That also sounds good! Hope you have fun

I feel like I need to fundamentally change how I approach the media I consume tbh. Backlogs really just end up causing more stress when all those things are really just supposed to bring joy to your life. Idk if maybe I shouldn’t just let go of any backlogs and do whatever the hell I feel like at the moment. Like, I owe nothing to those games and books and shows. They can’t own my life.

That is also a good idea, as I found out! Will you be focusing on writing in that instance?

Lol don’t worry. Even I’m starting to think I won’t make it since all the creative energy I have is going into the novel. It’s no biggie if we end up not doing the contest once

I did hear of the Bloodborne/DS3 comparison tbh. I think it was Yahtzee that mentioned it? He’s a big fanboy of those games. Still, it seems like the best option for you since that’s what you’re craving, but TLG might also be nice to break things up a bit.

I think so too. As much as I really want to get into FFXII, I am afraid I’ll get burnt out too quick if I go in straight after an open world game. Plus, Bayonetta is a new game for me, and I should choose to play new games more often than just going back to old favorites. That, and the longer I thirst for XII, the better it’ll taste once I finally get to it

Btw, I’ve set up the Valentines contest, but it isn’t really looking good this time around. Not a single comment, so I’m kinda we won’t get enough entries this time and I’ll have to cancel it.

I have heard that DS3 is more similar to DS1and Bloodborne, as it was actually directed by Miyazaki again, so it might as well scratch that itch for you!

Yeah, but while FFXII is the way you say it is, it’s still a time sink. So idk. I have wanted to play Bayonetta for some time too, so I guess I’ll just try that and see how it goes. Apparently it’s only ten hours long, which is really little compared to the other games I play.

I think the reason I’m tired of Xenoblade and wasn’t of the Witcher 3 was that it just feels like I’m filling out numbers instead of actually organically exploring a world. Every continent has a percentage, every segment on the world map something to do to mark it as complete, there’s so much gear to craft, and every party member has an affinity level to fill. Sure, that’s great for someone who’s really into that, but it feels to me like it’s just more work - unlike the Witcher which just felt like it had so many stories to tell. So yeah, the Witcher has ruined gaming for me. Not to mention XCX relies even more heavily on the MMO formula than the first game.

Meanwhile, while you ponder what to play next, I’m also having a dilemma. On the one hand, I’m really fired up for FFXII, but the. Again it’s alsi kind of an open world game and it’s big, while I want to focus a bit more on my writing, so maybe something less time consuming like Bayonetta would be better.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll keep them in mind, though I think I’m pretty set on the choices I made, as it’s kind of for the optimal compromise between balanced jobs and character-appropriate combos - for me at least.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Xenoblade, I’ve decided I’m gonna try and focus on the story for the rest of the game, and maybe come back to the post game someday if I ever feel like it. Better to end it on a high note than just get tired of it. On the plus side, just got the flight module for my Skells!

So I’ve consulted a bit with Karifi and this is around the job setup I think I want for the game:

    Vaan: Shikari/Foebreaker
    Penelo: Black Mage/Monk
    Balthier: Machinist/White Mage
    Fran: Red Battlemage/Archer
    Basch: Knight/Bushi
    Ashe: Uhlan/Time Battlemage

    Thoughts?

Still, having read through your commentary as you played the game again, I doubt I’ll have trouble regardless of my choice, since the game has been made so easy.

So what would you recommend to compliment a Knight? Or a Bushi, since both classes kinda fit Basch for me and I can’t teally decide between them, it would depend on what works with it

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
