Yeah, I'm bringing Tobi! The black and white one. He has a reservation on my flight and everything.

    Don't use flash!

Or if you do, use a separate flash unit rather than the built in flash. The built in one is dinky and not worth using. If you get a lens like the 50mm 1.4 (or the cheaper 1.8 version) you can get away with almost never having to use flash, except in the darkest situations.

Well, that's if you want to go with the micro four thirds. If you go with a intro dslr like the Canon Rebel, you'll get better photos, but it's going to be a bigger camera. The other bonus of going with the regular dslrs is that you'll have a huge range of lenses to choose from. The micro cameras are really new and so there aren't a ton of lens options for them yet. Sony is supposed to come out with like 6 new lenses in the next 2 years. So slowly the options should start growing. And I'm pretty sure Canon and Nikon will get in on the game too. Any canon lens will work with any Canon DSLR and same for Nikon. Right now, a micro four thirds lens is ONLY compatible within that same series of cameras unless you buy a separate mount.

For a DSLR, I'd recommend the Canon rebel series and for a standard point and shoot the Canon g11. For the micro four thirds, there's also the Olympus PEN which I *think* is cheaper than both the Panasonic and the Sony.

To Health!

by Shlup on 01-16-2014 at 12:11 AM
I called my insurance company again today, but this time a different line because I needed to talk to a "dedicated Health Plan Advisor" for this issue. I have this brochure they sent me about tax credits for these new Obamaplans, and it said to call to determine my eligibility and receive more info.

On hold, the audio was a little different. There was even a message about these tax credits! It describes the tax credit, and then says "To determine eligibility--"

Get Obama on the Horn

by Shlup on 01-14-2014 at 03:35 AM
The audio that plays when I'm on hold with my insurance company loops every 45 seconds. I've heard it 260 times so far today. At around 230 you start to flinch every time the piano solo is about to start, like you're gonna get a smack.

261

The friendly voice that tells you all associates are busy assisting other callers cuts off the piano solo. When she's done, the song jumps in again, mid-note.

262

It's always the same segment of the song.

It Smells Like a 4th Grade Volcano in Here

by Shlup on 12-21-2013 at 09:30 PM
I made Bailey's hand print into Christmas ornaments for myself, my mom, and BJ's mom. I used a clay I made from flour and baking soda.

Apparently Mod Podge is pretty acidic 'cause now trout's all bubbly and it smells like vinegar. AHH!!

I already tried a sealing spray, but it just gets absorbed. Now that the brush-on stuff is made of extra fail, I'll try an acrylic spray.

My nose holes are upset with me. Bailey seems to be amused though.

Milk

by Shlup on 11-11-2013 at 05:58 AM
I really, really like having a baby. Being a mother was always my main goal in life, but I didn't think I'd like it this much. I don't even mind that my nipples are killing me right now because I just pumped more milk than I ever have in one sitting before--I feel accomplished. Today she stared lifting her legs and laying them to the side, so that she's almost laying on her right side, and it's like the biggest deal ever. I took a few dozen pictures of this major event. I'm going to call the president

Generic Update

by Shlup on 08-25-2012 at 03:17 AM
I just feel like slamming my forehead into my desk over and over. There's not really a good reason for it either; I think I'm having hormonal issues.

I should be in a good mood! I got three promotions at work in the last week or so. I was promoted from seasonal to regular, and then I got a trainer position that I had interviewed for. I had to turn that one down, though, because just a couple of days ago I was offered the position above trainer. They want you to work as a regular for
