Any reason why you don't want to try P3 first?
  2. View Conversation
Ah yes, Umineko. I remember I will try it someday. It will probably the next VN on my list, but as I told you before - VNs have a similar effect to SRPGs on me - I get burnt out and need to wait a bit until I can play another thing of that genre.

Speaking of, I got tons of games for Christmas! All the DS Dragon Quests, Devil Survivor 1 and 2, Soul Hackers, Persona 4 Dancing All Night, and the Sims 4! When am i going to play all this! ><

I also kinda wish we could get a divorce case, or any other case. It's kinda boring that it's all murders

Well, I do intend to finish Apollo, and I have investigations borrowed from my brother as well, so I'll try that one out too. but unless I get a sudden craving for AA, I don't think I'll be buying the 3DS game.

I guess the subtlety is where it's at, but on the other hand, I also adore Danganronpa and the characters there actually benefit from starting out as caricatures. I think the difference there is that cohesive narrative that just grips me.

I kind of have a similar experience with Fire Emblem Awakening. A lot of people adore it to bits, and I'm just kinda meh about it, and the only thing I really loved about it was the ability to form relationships between the characters. And I also feel bad for not getting the hype, only this time it was Skyblade and not my brother who urged me to play it and whom I feel like I'm disappointing.

It's still kind of surprising to me that this turned out to be successful in the West, since it doesn't really fit into any niche that has a presence in here. Sometimes you just can't predict these things, i guess.

I'm actually interested in The Great Ace Attorney but, ironically enough, it looks like it won't get localized. oh well. I'll be sticking to my Danganronpas and Zero Escapes

So tell me, since you're our local VN specialist. Explain to me the phenomenon of Ace Attorney. Now, I'm not trying to diss anyone for liking this game, since I don't really dislike it. i just want to know. To analyze. Cause that's what I do.

So my experience with Ace Attorney is that I played the Phoenix Wright trilogy and started Apollo Justice and just... Every one of them was a chore, even if the endings to all games were pretty satisfying. I hated the puns, I did not enjoy most of the jokes, and the characters failed to grip me at best and were infuriating at worst (looking at YOU, Ema Sky ). I also don't care for the episodic format - maybe it's just me enjoying cohesive narratives more? Because it's not like I dislike VNs - Zero Escape and Dangan Ronpa are some of my favorite series, and I really dig the concept, so what gives? Is it the aggressively defensive fanbase? Is it the fact that my brother really wanted me to play (and like) the game? So maybe the question should be not why people like this game, but why I don't like it?

Seriously, what's the reason for its success?

Thank you that was so very generous of you! I wish I could afford to gift you something back, but unfortunately it will have to wait a little bit. I really appreciate it though and I'll play it soon~

    You've Been Chosen!

Yes! You've been selected randomly to receive presents in this year's EoFF Secret Santa '15! "But wait, I didn't take part," you may be asking. That's precisely the point! Presents are for everyone, and whether or not you took part, the organisers felt that everyone should have the opportunity to receive thoughtful, electronic presents.

You can read more about the event here; the big reveal is today at 7:00PM GMT! Don't forget about it!

    Merry Christmas!

Yay Tokyo School Life! I doubt you'll like it as much as I did but hopefully you'll like it xD Gaokao is hard tho. Try to balance school and life and get a low score of 505 on a test. Restart, study like a madman to the point of near fatigue, still get a 505 !!!

planetarian is pretty cheap and it's on Steam too so I can probably swing that one soon and add it to the list! Thank you !

Gaokao is pretty good so far if you wanted to try it! There's like 50 something endings and there's no way I could get them all. Maybe 2 of them if I'm lucky. So I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about different endings and stuff. Not that you need to of course, just if you felt like trying a new VN

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

YS VIII: LACRIMOSA OF DANA

If it's not clear by now, I adore the Ys series. I love how purely fun these games are, I love the simple sense of adventure, and the sense of genuine mystique from uncovering the lore of ancient places of legend. I love the way Falcom humanizes their characters and really makes them feel 'real' in a way other studios' JRPGs struggle to match. And whatever I may have said about Celceta it still is a game that has a lot of that.

YS: MEMORIES OF CELCETA (YS IV)

Time for a quick history lesson! Ys IV's history is a strange one indeed. Back around its initial release there were actually two games that were Ys IV, there was "Ys IV: Dawn of Ys" by Hudson Soft on the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) CD-ROM, and then there was "Ys IV: Mask of the Sun" by Tonkin House on the SNES. How did that happen? Well Falcom were in a bit of a situation at

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Seven

YS SEVEN

Heading into the final era of Ys games and in the series' timeline the chronologically last of the localized games so far we have Ys Seven. Released for the PSP in late 2009 and ported to the PC years later, this game marks a heavy departure from earlier titles in the series in terms of graphics, gameplay and storytelling alike. The shift was met with mixed reception, but given all that came out of it, I couldn't be

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Origin

YS ORIGIN

Now for perhaps one of the best-known games in the series, Ys Origin has gained quite a bit of notoriety especially on Steam, probably mainly because its Steam trailer is super hype. Does it deserve it? Well, to put it very simply... hell yeah it does.

As mentioned already, in Ys Origin you do not play as Adol. That's because this game is a prequel to the Ys I & II duology,

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Ys III)

YS: THE OATH IN FELGHANA (YS III)

The third Ys game was known in the SNES era as "Wanderers of Ys", and was the game to introduce a lot of the western world to the series. Its reputation overall has been mixed, being a sort of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" of the Ys series, ditching the overhead view for a sidescrolling adventure and as already implied not really being about the land of Ys at all anymore,
