    hey, how be things?

That's exactly my gripe. With a much better writer on board, XIII could have had a really great story, because the potential is there. Still, the way it is written really makes it hard to enjoy any of the characters. I especially take issue with Snow and Hope's resolution because I saw it done in Persona 3 before and it was executed much better

I also like to exaggerate my point for fun (especially around certain members, whose buttons are so easy to push ). Call me a troll, but maybe that's what I am? I don't hate Yuffie quite so much, though she does seem like a pretty unnecessary character, only put in there to fill in a quota of the cute underage girl, which is hella exploitative and I'm just tired of. but that's just my opinion

But yeah, I'm also kind of done with the "How can you hate them! They're such a good person! What do you have against good people?" thing. That is why I made this distinction, because so many times my attitude has been demonized whenever I expressed my dislike for Snow. Sure, he may be a nice guy. but the way he is implemented is really one of the reasons XIII's story failed in my eyes. I hate him because he doesn't work, because his character annoys me. And then people tell me I'm terrible for wanting to punch nice people in the face. You'd think I eat live puppies as a hobby from all those comments, really

I may have been a bit too direct in how I discribe it

The thing is, I do treat characters like people as long as they are written as such. Granted, writing a character that seems like a genuine person is insanely hard and rarely done, so instead of focusing on how the character is as a person, I focus on their other merits and how they work in the context of the story. Which is, for example, why Enoshima is one of my favorite video game characters of all time, despite being written as something removed so far from what a human being is as is possible.

Wäre cool, wenn du nochmal was dazu sagen könntest. Muss nichts großartiges sein, scheint mir aber schon wieder in Richtung "DBZ"Problematik zu gehen.

Not the last time I played but maybe recently. I hope so, it'll make it easier for me to play. And when games have that option, those who want a challenge can have access to that to. It seems to be becoming a more common thing so hopefully it'll stick

It can certainly be frustrating for not good players like me. But I enjoy it.

I'm pretty awful at Breath of Fire III and Dragon Age Origins lately! Thank goodness for difficulty modes on a lot of modern games

No, no, I was kind of more expressing a bit of annoyance at a certain... trend on this, uh.. forum. yeah. A trend

I do kind of keep thinking I may have some kind of mental disorder or something due to how different my view of certain things is to other people on a lot of occassions. Like, the consensus about Kingdom Hearts (and I mean about fans, because I know a lot of people just don't like the series and that's okay) is that the story is an incomprehensible mess but it's still great because of the battle system and Disney cameos. And I'm like, totally stumped because at no point was anything about KH not clear to me and I really cannot understand how someone could struggle with comprehending it. And while I think it's cool that I can enjoy it, it's still kind of a bummer to hear that all the time when I do in fact enjoy the story a lot.

    Hi!

I can, yeah. I think a lot of RPG's have the problem of Press X to win. Magic is cool and useful but isn't sustainable when doing the main story of a new game because you don't know when you'll get an inn or whatever and most limit your magic and magic restoration. When I play XIII I personally have to be much more involved and watch the combat and pay attention to white I'm doing. With most others I can do homework while holding down the attack button and looking up every once in a while to make sure I haven't died. So I think XIII definitely adds more depth that a lot of RPG's are lacking

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

YS VIII: LACRIMOSA OF DANA

If it's not clear by now, I adore the Ys series. I love how purely fun these games are, I love the simple sense of adventure, and the sense of genuine mystique from uncovering the lore of ancient places of legend. I love the way Falcom humanizes their characters and really makes them feel 'real' in a way other studios' JRPGs struggle to match. And whatever I may have said about Celceta it still is a game that has a lot of that.

YS: MEMORIES OF CELCETA (YS IV)

Time for a quick history lesson! Ys IV's history is a strange one indeed. Back around its initial release there were actually two games that were Ys IV, there was "Ys IV: Dawn of Ys" by Hudson Soft on the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) CD-ROM, and then there was "Ys IV: Mask of the Sun" by Tonkin House on the SNES. How did that happen? Well Falcom were in a bit of a situation at

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Seven

YS SEVEN

Heading into the final era of Ys games and in the series' timeline the chronologically last of the localized games so far we have Ys Seven. Released for the PSP in late 2009 and ported to the PC years later, this game marks a heavy departure from earlier titles in the series in terms of graphics, gameplay and storytelling alike. The shift was met with mixed reception, but given all that came out of it, I couldn't be

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Origin

YS ORIGIN

Now for perhaps one of the best-known games in the series, Ys Origin has gained quite a bit of notoriety especially on Steam, probably mainly because its Steam trailer is super hype. Does it deserve it? Well, to put it very simply... hell yeah it does.

As mentioned already, in Ys Origin you do not play as Adol. That's because this game is a prequel to the Ys I & II duology,

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Ys III)

YS: THE OATH IN FELGHANA (YS III)

The third Ys game was known in the SNES era as "Wanderers of Ys", and was the game to introduce a lot of the western world to the series. Its reputation overall has been mixed, being a sort of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" of the Ys series, ditching the overhead view for a sidescrolling adventure and as already implied not really being about the land of Ys at all anymore,
