I still haven't gotten access to the whole party, but of the classes I have, I'm quite impressed with Red Battlemage. Happy I started Fran out on that one. Kind of wish I had not started Vaan as Shikari though since the class looks like one that gets more useful later when Ninja Blades become accessible.

Overall, I'm really enjoying the class system and how it makes the party feel more distinct from each other. Can't wait to see what Knight and Time Battlemage will look like since they will be my starting classes for Basch and Ashe.

I am starting to rethink the classes I'm going to give everyone when the secondary classes become available.

It helped I got it as a gift. Not that I wasn't interested, just didn't have the money to pick it up when it came out. It's been an interesting experience so far.

I know I need to write it all down, definitely. It is pretty exciting though, since on the one hand, it's more of a traditional fantasy than what I'm writing now - in that, it's a completely fictional universe. But I think the idea is pretty cool because I aim to kind of deconstruct the notion of fantasy races - none of the races are traditional fantasy races, and there aren't even "humans" per se, and they really more resemble real life races, ethnicities, as well as the tensions stemming from them.

So I kinda want to do it as an allegory, but it's been fun just thinknig of what this "similar yet different to our own" world does. Although, as usual, I think the story will mostly be about the characters and go into intimate detail regarding their issues and relationships.

Still, I'm happy. I was worried that after I'm done with my current project, I'd end up an empty well of nothing, my creativity done. And now, i try to reassure myself that I can craft a completely new story from scratch, and what do you know - it comes to me! I can do this!

That's the last thing I'd need, tbh. I feel like this sroty lacks focus as is.

    So I spent half the day worldbuilding for a totally new writing project... Even though I'm not even halfway done with draft zero of my book... Just great -_-;

Honestly it was the original Super Mario Bros. games, I use to design stages for them with friends in art period in the second grade. I also loved when GamePro would give me guides to level designs for the Sonic titles. I don't think I began to really take it seriously though until Chrono Trigger because it was a game that I simply kept discovering stuff for long after I thought I had mastered it. It gets some flak for some of it's quirky logic but it's kind of staggering how well integrated your choices are.

For me, I've always been the type who likes to take things apart and see how it works, so I've been kind of doing that with games since I was little. I would probably say that it's the craftsmanship of a title that is often the most important element to me.

No I missed that train I'm afraid. I didn't get a PC for myself until the late 90s and by then I was pretty much a console junkie. I've only recently returned to PC games in the last few years and even then, it's still my least favorite mode of gaming.

Oh, you know, nothing special. We ended up not having time for anything because not only was it a normal work day, we had to prepare our kitchen space to be fitted soon after.

I understand that feeling. I know I have some quirky taste which always makes recommending stuff hard for other people.

If the premise is interesting enough, I can suffer through a slow pace but the payoff has to match up. 358/2 and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy are good examples of stories what have incredibly slow and dry pacing but had such a great climax that I can forgive it. On the other hand, FFX is a game that felt like it dragged on because the plot was a bit too predictable for me.

Dies Irae Review

by Karifean on 08-03-2017 at 01:32 AM
Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~ is a visual novel created by Light. It was one of the most renowned JP-only VNs before finally getting a localization in June of this year.

Come, gather and bear witness to my opera, now in the making.

Its script is the height of cliché, I am forced to admit. And yet...

Its actors are of the finest fold; beyond exquisite.

Thus, I believe you will find it enthralling.

Umineko: Episode 4 Tea Party

by Karifean on 07-09-2017 at 09:57 PM
You talk too much. All you have to do is honestly say 'I'll kill you'.

For those that don't know, the climaxes of Episodes 4, 5 and 6 are my 3 favorite moments in Umineko (which also makes them my 3 favorite moments in fiction overall), all for their own individual reasons. I've been dying to talk about them for a while. I figured I'd start with the Episode 4 Tea Party, quite possibly the greatest example of Ryukishi's writing skill of them all.

SubaHibi set for late August release

So this probably won't be relevant for most people here since non-PG and all, but SubaHibi, one of the most hyped visual novels in recent memory, is set to be released in English in late August.

The method of release is kind of strange, ngl. Apparently they offer the first chapter of the game in all ages on Steam for 30 bucks and then provide

As of just now, Little Busters! English Edition is on Steam Greenlight. While the release date is a vague "2017" it's pretty cool to see *something* happening nonetheless.
