It's because I refuse to post in the FFX and XIII forums for the benefit of the fans not to have to listen to my constant bitching.

Tomoyo after wasn't yet translated when I finished it, sadly. And after my VN phase, I never really felt like revisiting it. Although sometimes I wish I'd played the Fate VN's.

Anyway, my favorite in CLANNAD was Kyou, but it's a shame her story wasn't really the best in the VN. Too much focus on her sister.

I'm fairly sure After story wasn't out yet when I started, but it was over when I finished. Man, must've put in a hundred hours. Crazy long stories sometimes.

Hmm, let me think, I had a small VN phase. I've played Little Busters, a good one, that. Better than the anime. And of course Kanon, a must. Tried to get into Air, but it was too weird for me.

Did you play any of them? If not, I recommend Little Busters.

I dunno, 8 years ago or something. It was an unofficial translation back then.

Finished VLR. The gameplay was definitely a step up, as the puzzles made a lot more sense and being able to choose the exact point you want on the timeline was much better than the starting from the beginning every time thing from 999. And puzzles didn't have to be repeated at all, which is great.

But I felt the first one handled its story better. I mean, VLR is still very interesting, but 999 just had a better narrative, IMO. It was all much more effective and cohesive, with that one moment when Junpei remembered the password through a flashback of other timelines being really intense precisely because it happened only once at a very climactic moment. Also, I did not enjoy the cliffhanger ending at all. 999 ended pretty grand, whereas VLR kind of went off with a sizzle, clearly being designed to tie into the third game in the series.

In the end, though, I enjoyed both a lot and while I am a bit burnt out by this one now (as I was with 999), I will most certainly get the third game when it comes out.

The reason I have not updated Bauer Island yet is that I started a full-time job and the first few weeks are just crazy >< Everything is already completely finished in my head at this point, though, so when I'll be publishing chapter 5, everything else should be written as well, so nothing will stop me from posting week after week,.

After that I'll probably post "A dream is a wish" on the blog, so I have more time to brainstorm story ideas And that story really did take me a long time to pull off, so I really wanna show it off to a wider audience.

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

YS VIII: LACRIMOSA OF DANA

If it's not clear by now, I adore the Ys series. I love how purely fun these games are, I love the simple sense of adventure, and the sense of genuine mystique from uncovering the lore of ancient places of legend. I love the way Falcom humanizes their characters and really makes them feel 'real' in a way other studios' JRPGs struggle to match. And whatever I may have said about Celceta it still is a game that has a lot of that.

YS: MEMORIES OF CELCETA (YS IV)

Time for a quick history lesson! Ys IV's history is a strange one indeed. Back around its initial release there were actually two games that were Ys IV, there was "Ys IV: Dawn of Ys" by Hudson Soft on the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) CD-ROM, and then there was "Ys IV: Mask of the Sun" by Tonkin House on the SNES. How did that happen? Well Falcom were in a bit of a situation at

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Seven

YS SEVEN

Heading into the final era of Ys games and in the series' timeline the chronologically last of the localized games so far we have Ys Seven. Released for the PSP in late 2009 and ported to the PC years later, this game marks a heavy departure from earlier titles in the series in terms of graphics, gameplay and storytelling alike. The shift was met with mixed reception, but given all that came out of it, I couldn't be

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys Origin

YS ORIGIN

Now for perhaps one of the best-known games in the series, Ys Origin has gained quite a bit of notoriety especially on Steam, probably mainly because its Steam trailer is super hype. Does it deserve it? Well, to put it very simply... hell yeah it does.

As mentioned already, in Ys Origin you do not play as Adol. That's because this game is a prequel to the Ys I & II duology,

A Modern Guide to Ys - Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Ys III)

YS: THE OATH IN FELGHANA (YS III)

The third Ys game was known in the SNES era as "Wanderers of Ys", and was the game to introduce a lot of the western world to the series. Its reputation overall has been mixed, being a sort of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" of the Ys series, ditching the overhead view for a sidescrolling adventure and as already implied not really being about the land of Ys at all anymore,
