I'm not familiar with anything else by them. I just know they kind of had a noticeable shift to digital during the development of III, and their style kind of drastically changed then. Which is why the portraits and sprites don't quite match, as sprites are based on old artwork, while the portraits on the new artwork.

Exactly! I like my games diverse, so while it's good that some games decide to evolve and that's a good thing for them, like FF, I'm still happy that there's series who just slightly tweak what they have. That way we get more to choose from!

I do. I am honestly so glad it exists. It's actually really affected my perspective on gaming in general. There's this whole pressure to constantly innovate in gaming nowadays, you'd think a series as traditionalist as DQ would die a natural death like five years ago. But it exists and it is just flourishing. It's so refreshing to see that indeed something can be done to make old school RPGs interesting without steadily replacing every element that makes the genre what it is. Every time I play these games I feel as if I were a kid again, playing all those old FFs. At this point, I am really thankful that this exists, and that there is at least one series that will keep giving us traditional RPGs.

Nothing, really. I find that focusing only on DQ has allowed me to truly immerse myself in it. It's been some time since I was so involved in a series of games, I don't even feel like touching anything else in the meantime. I'll be playing Pillars of Eternity after VI, since I promised my wife. We'll see if focusing on a single game will work for that too. It's not that I try to keep it at this pace or anything, it just works here, and I might shake up the formula in the future.
