So how've you been?

So I'm actually making progress on my novel. I can;t believe it.

I hope to have my first draft ready before Christmas, and then the second ASAP (maybe before that time as well). And when that's done, I'll need to get it to my beta readers.

So, you still interested?

Okay, so we started playing this little game on Halloween called Fran Bow. It's a point-and-click adventure with a very pleasant visual style, and the main characters are this little ten-year-old girl with huge eyes and her black cat. It's very interesting in that it starts with a very spooky horror aesthetic, with some incredibly chillinh and scary elements on many levels (it starts in a children's mental institution in the 40s; you do the math), but then as it progresses, each chapter is lighter and softer than the last. I mean, the darkness is still there, but it kind of transitions from psychological horror to fantasy. We haven't finished it yet, but it's very cool so far. Thought you might actually like it, so decided to give you a heads-up!

If I were to have one complaint, though, is that the English translation is kind of awkward. It's all grammatically correct, meaning you can understand everything that's going on, but you can tell that it's odd which kinda breaks immersion for me.

Turns out making really good vegetable broth is actually incredibly easy!

She wasn't really a prof. Not sure she even had a doctorate yet. No, when I think about it, she was probably a PhD.

So anyway, it was on the year I tried to take Japanese. The crying didn;t directly occur in my class, but I heard older students talk about it. So the class was introduction to literary studies, and we didn't have it at all for a month. Then she came in and said we'll make up for the classes she didn't hold by going to see Madame Butterfly at the opera. And all her classes consisted of her reading from a piece of paper and even though all classes are scheduled for 90 minutes, she'd end them after 30-40. Basically, right after reading everything she had to read, she'd say "That's all, thank you, goodbye."

And we had classes like that with her for like, a month and a half? And then she was gone and the dean was like "Well, I guess you guys won't be having intro to lit studies anymore " Rumor was she was sick, so that was a bummer.

So yeah, I heard the older students had really fun classes with her. She'd come in, put her jacket on her desk, lie on the jacket, and cry the whole duration of the class. It would happen repeatedly. No one knows why. And honestly, having met her, it really feels like something she would do.

Of course, it's a shame I couldn't get a grade for that then because later I had to have introduction to lit studies on my English studies, and that lady was a demon. She was a professor, but I really have no idea why. How is it possible for a professor at the smurfing department of English to speak the worst English I've ever heard? She had moments when she sounded like Elmer Fudd, I'm not kidding. She pronounced all her Rs like Ws. While trying to go for a British accent. She always ended up saying "outist" instead of "artist", and when heard by a Polish speaker, it sounds like "autist". And believe me, this was literary studies. "Artist" is a pretty heavily featured word. Aside from that, she took attendance which was 100% illegal because this was a lecture, and this attendance was checked via a quiz taken at the beginning of every lecture (also illegal), and if you were absent for any reason, you were screwed because she wouldn't even accept a doctor's note, and if you didn't have 100% of your quizzes passed, you couldn't take the exam. And the exam was the deadliest exam I've ever taken. 2/3rds of my entire year, consiisting of a big chunk over 100 people, failed it and had to retake it in september. I was one of the few who passed. barely. Ended up filling 8 pages A4 in very tiny handwriting, my hand hurting, and all this in like 2 hours? I wrote down everyting. And I got a 3+. On a grading scale from 2 to 5.

So yeah. I liked introduction to linguistics much better, let me tell you.
