What? I can't be both?

I'm pretty decent. I've been busy with racing lately, but now I'll have some down time.

How's the "no cheese" coming along?

Just make it clear that you don't mind him hanging out with friends some evenings, you just want to know if he isn't going to be coming home until quite late.

And I'd say also to realize that he might not change the behaviour overnight. It might take a few weeks or maybe even a month or two of reminding when he does it for him to stop doing it completely, but hopefully if it's clear to him that it upsets you when he does that he'll get the message and start calling more often. So start with just talking with him about it and saying that all you want is for him to let you know when he'll be out late. Remind him if he does it again, see if he improves and go from there. Odds are if he realizes it really upset you he will make the effort since a simple phone call isn't asking for too much.

Speaking as a man who has been on the receiving end of a wife who was upset at his staying out late without calling on more than one occasion, I'd say the best way to make him understand is to simply tell him. Make it clear to him that you feel you guys aren't getting as much quality time between work and school and that him not telling you he was going to be out late playing poker bothered you. Granted, I'm assuming it was the not telling you that bothered you more than simply being out late. Just make it clear to him that you'd appreciate him letting you know when he's going to be out late. I'd also say that as long as he isn't spending too much time out with friends at the expense of spending time with you that you make it clear to him that it was just the not calling that bothered you, not the fact that he was out unless I'm completely misreading you here.
