I don't know who the girl is, but I want to father her children for some reason. Must be the hair.

Hi! Mario and Luigi look weird clean-shaven. What's up?

Oh, I know all about the Green brothers, don't you worry xD Their educational channels have influenced the way my team has been building this MOOC of ours too. I think they typify the best way to get people learning. Make it fun and engaging and interesting and people will frigging listen to world history about a time and place they give zero trouts about.

Yeah, I'm fairly familiar with (most of) those writers. At least as people. I'm not quite as widely read as I would like, because my list of books grows and grows while my money and time dwindle. But between Mae and I, we're growing our library and a couple of those guys are on our list of books to pick up so I just need to set aside time to read them. I think most of my reading happens based around what I want to write now; I double up my time as research so it's a little easier justified or whatever.

Can't say much in terms of favourite authors of the moment. The last author I read quite a lot from was John Green and I enjoyed his books thoroughly. Our very own Mister Adequate's book was solid too. I've been reading some Jim Butcher and there was a new book called Shovel Ready by a guy who I don't recall which was great. I'm also about to read a pulp sci-fi/western called Peacemaker by a friend and colleague Marriane de Pierres, so that should be enjoyable. Haven't read any of her books yet so I need to get onto that xD

I kept clicking, expecting a link, and then I realised you wanted me to do the leg work! I do vaguely recall you doing a poll asking what to write about... that was you, right? I apologise regardless, and I will definitely check out your stuff. Writing fiction is good fun, and something I'm also trying my hat at as well. I'm not quite as confident or as nuanced in my writing of fiction as I am in the editing of fiction, but I still hope that one day I'll like, win a thing or get a book deal or something. That would be grand. What genres are you most keen on? Obviously an interest in sci-fi/fantasy lends itself to that X-Men kind of vibe but anything else particularly strike your fancy?

It wasn't Zoo, no, though I'm actually relatively pleased with the games criticism in there. I get a copy of it every now and then when there is a particularly attractive chick on the front. AlaynaMae and I share the same taste in women so it is always nice to have nice ladies to look at from the comfort of our home

It has been tough trying to drum up ideas, and even when I do create stuff, it always feels a little less cool or interesting. I have some really interesting topics to talk about at the moment but they're mostly academic investigations that would not be fit for publication anywhere but a journal, so that's a rough thing. And when I do have ideas and they are okay, it's still so damn hard trying to find someone to take them. I've got two magazines now that I can regularly submit to but two things a month isn't sustainable, and a couple places I pitched to in the last week or so have been interested but strapped for cash thanks to E3 xD

Nice that they at least try to boost you with awards but it's just not quite the same

Well at least you went out with a bang! That's the best way to do it. My goal was to write for a particular Australian magazine and lo and behold it was actually the first paid gig I got as a freelancer. It would be nice to actually have a staff position there but small steps Getting awards is neat though, not something you typically have to look forward to in an office

Super Mario Maker: Days 2 & 3

by Colonel Angus on 09-19-2015 at 05:06 AM
By the third day I had unlocked all the items in the creator (excluding the mystery mushroom costumes).

Speaking of Mystery Mushroom costumes, yesterday I beat 100 Mario mode on the medium setting (which you must to unlock Expert, more on that later). Which costume did I get rewarded w/? Tingle. Yes, Tingle. That green little weirdo from Wind Waker. My god, who the hell wants Tingle! I'm guessing it's random, because Tingle is something that should be given as a punishment for losing

Super Mario Maker: Day One

by Colonel Angus on 09-17-2015 at 07:23 AM
Due to technical problems re: my WiFi, I wasn't able to play Super Mario Maker until 5 days after it's release. Nonetheless, I have to say that I'm just glad to have started it. Super Mario Maker was not only my most anticipated game in a long time, but one of the most anticipated games of the year. My early prognosis is it was worth all the hype. However, I haven't played through it fully, so I'll save a full review for after I've unlocked all the essentials.

Apparently, the 9 day

X-Men: Movies of Future Past

by Colonel Angus on 06-07-2014 at 04:35 AM
Over my vacation I was able to re-watch most of the movies from the X-Men franchise. I've been a fan of the franchise since my uncle would let me read his comics. Then of course came the great animated series, which for me and maybe others my age, are the definitive X-Men.

When Days of Future Past came out, I was suddenly excited. Last year's The Wolverine turned out to be a pleasant surprise, so my hopes were high for this one. Fortunately, it didn't fail expectations; it should save
