It would have worked just fine as a novel, but I like the graphic novel format. Since the artwork is pretty.

I believe it's 13 volumes, actually, which I, too, shall have to pick up.

Yeah, I had to read the rest of the series I don't have with the Viz Graphic Novels with scanlations, and alot of them were poor quality (switching between 'Raito' and 'Light' every five chapters with a different translation team gives quite a headache.) But I'll definitely pick up all twelve of the volumes when they're released by Viz (I only have one through four right now).

I haven't, since I'm too worried the low-quality scanlations won't get all the plot. I got to the point where (SPOILER)Mellow gets the Death Note.
