I couldn’t explain it without being so savage. I know that not all Chinese restaurants that aren’t explicitly Chinese are gimmicky!

I don't know if it's for either group specifically...it doesn't have the gimmicky feel at all, and it's very good food, but it's not as authentic as that.

Hmm... that’s, well. Is it like an actual Chinese place, for Chinese people, or is it for Americans? One time my friend took me to a Chinese restaurant in the city, and although I had been to Chinese restaurants many times before, the one he took me to was very, hmm, overwhelming, I suppose. Different. Alienated, maybe. Everything was in Cantonese. Everything! I didn’t even know what the toilets were. I suppose that the benefit of this was that it lacked a certain... hmm... gimmicky feel? that the more white-man-friendly restaurants have. Authentic without trying to be, I suppose. The food was the best Chinese food I had ever eaten, though. Unfortunately, it is the kind of place where someone like me (totally uneducated in everything Chinese) would suffer in alone. It would be like being in actual China, without a tour guide or phrase book.

Do you read descriptions of things before ordering them? Or are the descriptions in Chinese?
