Psychotic, at one stage, seemed hell-bent on the idea that the lol smilie is broken because of the I cried aloud with mirth and merriment filter. But if that was the case, would it not turn in to I cried aloud with mirth and merriment when you typed :lol: with smilies disabled?

Well it depends. If it is replying to a really long private message and they just say lol it kind of pisses me off. I don't mind it too much if it is replying to a short or pointless private message. But it is kind of difficult to continue the chain from there, so I usually just drop it at I cried aloud with mirth and merriment (I mean lol). They probably don't want to go on anyway, and replied so I don't kill myself or something.
