Nah, it's not. In fact, you can still complete the game after killing Vivec. He's a tough one to beat, though.

Yeah, it's the biggest city but it's also very boring. I get so depressed when I have to go there. That's usually why I feel the need for killing Vivec.

That place is dumb anyways. It's way too big, and it isn't pretty, takes forever to get places, and it took me MONTHS to be unconfused about how to get around. Lower level upper level northwest canton. Ugh. And then you got those guys breathing down your neck everywhere you go too. Bastards.

They come back, though. I remember once (on a save I played without cheating on) I accidently talked to one whilst wearing his stupid pauldron. They were after me even after I paid my dues. After me forever. Going to Vivec was scary for me until I got stronger.
