I have made a grave mistake in mistaking his gender mistakenly for a weeman.

shannon hoon was the lead singer of blind melon. he started as a guns n' roses cover band shortly after graduating high school in 1986. this was when he wrote his first song, change. he went to LA, met the rest of his band members at a party, the a whole lot of other stuff happened. (including doing backup vocals for Axl Rose)
then blind melon's no rain got good and the "bee girl" came out and blind melon became famous
drug problems for hoon got worse
a whole lotys of rockstar stuff happened (wearing girlfriens clothes on stage, public nudity, pissing on fans)
had a daughter named Nico Blue, shortly before overdosing on heroin in 1995
died
blind melon released Nico i n 1996 as a tribute album to shannon hoon
