Edit: Actually, this could be spoiler worthy, I dunno. Might as well go for it.
(SPOILER)Abel was shown quickly in a flash during the end of Xenosaga I, and that white room with his blocks was where he was. They put it in III to show you that's where he's been and just as a cool thing to make fans chuckle. There is no puzzle or any significance to that room at all. You only have to go through the other door on the left of the previous room to continue on.
