New Interceptor Bug

This bug recently happened to me, aswell as to a few other people.

I reported it on GFs today, and after spending the whole day arguing it wasn't a hoax and that I wasn't lying, I am incredibly frustrated with said boards and it's community, and that I spent the whole day trying to prove myself when it was clearly a waste of time.

I however figure people might want to know about this (And the faster people know about it, the faster my name will stop being slandered -_-), so I figured I'd report it here, where I (wondered) if people might be a tad more open minded and actually try it for themselves before crucifying me.

Here's what happened:

After Terra flew off of Narshe, my party was Locke, Celes, Cyan and Shadow.

Through SaveState, I kept Shadow with me until after finding Terra where he leave on his own during the cutscene. (Other people have reported Not Hiring Shadow and Hiring Shadow and having it flee from battle and still getting the bug).

After Zozo, I chose my team of Locke, Celes, Cyan and Gau. Upon reaching Vector, I noticed Celes was protected by Interceptor.

Other people reported Sabin being protected by Interceptor aswell.

Apparently, Sabin and Celes can be protected by Interceptor even before the Opera and Vector, just right after Zozo makes you chose your character.

I have no saves from before Zozo, and I tried to get Sabin to be protected too, but failed. For me, only Celes ever gets protected by the dog.


I by all means refuse to get dragged into a new argument about whether I'm making stuff up or not. I provided the information, and whoever is of good will can test it and I am nearly 100% certain things will be worked out before long.

Also, so far I've only heard of three other persons reporting this. I really doubt I did anything special, and as such I am clueless as to why not more person have experienced this up to now. I tried conducting a search on google to see if there were any other such reports on the net, but I found nothing. (My Googling skills are incredibly weak, though.)

hmm, I'd love if sabin got interceptor, it would really make my last character selection easy. I always choose between locke/shadow, and shadow typically wins cause of interceptor. Sabin is in the party anyways, so if he got interceptor, well easy choice.

Either way, I wonder what caused this to happen. I'm just in the middle of Sabin's Scenario, so I'll see if it happens when I get there.

Does interceptor come to counter attack too or does he just appear and block, because i think ive seen that but im not sure.

Yes. I saw him use TakeDown and Wild Fang frequently.

I just had Interceptor protect Cyan out of the blue, I'm right after Ifrit and Shiva..

I loaded a previous SaveState and I can't figure out for the life of me how to reproduce it. On the previous SaveState, Interceptor still only protects Celes even after beating them again.

Square really seems to have a hard time doing ports properly.

maybe after you use shadow he can protect anyone now....? Who knows really

Only 4 persons said they had it happen to them on GF, the bug surely isn't that obvious..

Nobody here noticed it yet, either.

Would it have anything to do with playing on an emulator? :confused: Or have some of the others reported this on a cart?

At any rate, quite a neat discovery. I've never had this happen to me (luckily?).

Well, only four other persons (Other than me) reported the bug.

Of them, 2 said they were playing the cartridge on their GBA.

1 didn't give any indications. (He just said Interceptor was protecting all of his party at the same time =S)

The other plays on a ROM like me.

One of the two guys playing on the GBA and the other on the VBA both said Interceptor was protecting two members of their party, and then there's the guy saying the dog protects ALL the party.

Well, I've figured out how the glitch happens, and it's apparently the side-effect of a gameshark code.

I managed to reproduce the bug with 100% efficiency, and I also managed to put Interceptor on EVERY of my characters in the WoB.

The glitch resets in the WoR.

This is not a Gameshark code, but is CAUSED by a Gameshark Code. (The way I found it anyway).

First, the code I found causes this is the following:

As you notice, it's the Maximum AP code. Now, when is AP first introduced ? Right after Zozo. And that's where everyone reported the first occurrance of the glitch.

While using the Gameshark code and fighting battles to learn magic, the game will glitch in a few ways.

A monster will sometimes be totally invincible and impossible to hit.
A monster will die, and then be reborn as being totally invincible and impossible to hit.
A character will disappear and be impossible to command.

The third occurance causes this.

After the battle, the character will have two new status on him, Float and Dog Protect.

I have no idea if it's really possible to actually exploit this glitch without the use of a Gameshark, or if it's even possible at all.

With this glitch, it's possible to put Interceptor to protect all of your party members, and he will remain on that character permanently, up until WoR.

I'd assume it's possible to have every characters protected in the WoR too, but I haven't tried, since I now use the Codebreaker AP code as it's bug free ^^

I assume the other persons that reported this and swore they owned no Gameshark lied, and although I might be wrong, I doubt it.

I apologize for not having thought about the most obvious right from the start.

I think this happened to me. I just took Shadow from level 44 to 99 and didnt see Interceptor once. :cry:

Im assuming hes gone forever...
