KH2: What are the shards for?

What are the shards for, I haven't found any use for them so far :confused:

If you're playing KH1 you won't be able to synthesize until you can use Green Trinity, which is gained after either Deep Jungle or Agrabah, I think. If it's KH2 you can do it once you get to Hollow Bastion.

you geet the green trinity in deep jungle, i belive.

His title says KH2 so I assume he means KH2 o.oa They're generally by save points.
