I don't have the Advance version yet, but I remember on SNES and PSX Sabin's Blitz's like Bum Rush had diagonal input but you could double press each direction for an alternate input (left left up up right right down down left left) instead of rotating the pad. Did this trick remain or not.. ?
I think the GBA version uses only the alternate, since you can't really rotate on the GBA as compared to SNES.
It works either way, sliding or double tapping single directions for diagonals. Only one tap at the end though, you wrote:
(left left up up right right down down left left)
should be:
(left left up up right right down down left)
