Red mages suck

Ok i'm going to be blunt here. I hate Red mages. I aprecate that in the beging they are, quite good.
However, They eat up your gill like a starving shark, this is just to make them good. also they never have a decent amount of MP. Meaning that you never have magic when you have a scren full of enimies. Plus his higher defence makes me put him closer to the front of the rows, so he he spends al lot of time on his face. In fact the only class that spends time of the floor is the BB.
But i'll concide the point (i'll do it now) that thier solo is the esiest.
However they are my 2nd most hated. class (next to the black belt)

What are you talking about? Red mages have all the useful support spells, without the weak armor of white or black mages, plus they get some cool weapons to boot so they make decent physical damage if you run out of spells... AND you can cast both white and black magic... Whats there to hate about red mages? Its my favourite class in the game.. 4 red mages = FUN

I think you deserve it, too. I agree with everything in the post above.

At the end of the game, magic is pretty pointless. Any attacker can kill most enemies in one hit, and the Red Mage/Wizard can as well. By the end of the game, I find the most useful spell to be FAST. Red mage is the only mage I even consider taking when I play the original anymore, because Black and White mages are useless. Of course if we're talking DoS, or some other version, sure I'd take another mage, but not in NES version where magic is so limited it's worthless by the end regardless of what class they are.

Wow... there aren't many more classes to hate!

A class that tries to be good at everyone ends up being the best at nothing. I dislike red mages out of principle. But they are an easy class to play with and they aren't too bad if there's a good mix of other classes around to make things interesting.

Red Mages aren't that bad. Sure, they're weaker than White Mages and Black Mages when it comes to Magic, but they could be used as a backup mage or fighter. I feel you have plenty of options when using a Red Mage

Im gonna reply again and talk more about the fun factor... Red mages are by far the most fun class in the game because they can do basically ANYTHING.. this is one of the big reasons I love FF 7 and 8 while so many people hate them... every character can do everything, so it adds tons of variety to battles.. now look at a boss battle in FF 9...

Zidane casts thievery
Freya casts dragons crest
Quina casts frog drop
Eiko casts holy

Round 2

Repeat and heal if needed

Thats incredibly boring if you ask me... Thats where red mages rock.. you can attack or cast support or white or black magic or whatever you want to do, so it never gets boring...

Unlike the Black Mage, the Red Mage doesn't hit for single digit damage while you try to conserve magic for when you actually need it.

Unlike the Black Mage, the Red Mage can take a hit and not occupy your healer for the next two turns. So unlike the Black Mage, a Red Mage can make a White Mage almost unnecessary.

Unlike the Black Mage, the Red Mage is cheaper as it needs less spells in order to be competent and can equip most of the cool armour you find lying around for free; before then it's no more expensive than a Fighter.

Unlike the Black Mage, the Red Mage can heal more than 30HP... not that it usually needs to.

Unlike the Fighter and the Black Belt, the Red Mage is very useful when it casts FAST on itself.

Unlike the White Mage, the Red Mage doesn't need to selfishly waste time healing itself for the next two turns after taking a single hit.

Unlike the Thief... wait, no. I concede that the Thief, once it upgrades, is better. Until then, a Red Mage can do more than run away.

Red mages indeed do suck A LOT.
