Returning from the trench

A long time ago, I had a game in FF6, but I quit. I will tell you why briefly: I got the water rondo for mog, but then ended up far, far away from my airship when I got out of the underwater area, and had no idea how to get back. (I hadn't saved in a while.)

Now, I plan on starting a new game sometime, but I first want to know how to get back to the veldt after going through the trench to get mog's water rondo. Can anyone tell me?

P.S.: Sorry if I can't remember the game too well. It's been ages since I played it.

I land right next to the Ghost Train forest, go jump down the waterfall then in the trench. Buy a Chocobo in Nikeah after the trench, then ride it east along the mountains, you'll find yourself at the cottage starting Sabin's scenario, but thanks to the Chocobo, you get all the way back without a single fight.

And if you want to take the long way, take the ferry from Nikeah to South Figaro, cross Mt. Kolts and hop on the raft in the Returner's Hideout, which will take you down the Lete River and deposit you where Sabin starts his side-quest.
