Yes. Or in less common instances, "LMAO" when I find something really amusing. Otherwise I just say something like "haha", or “Heh” to acknowledge that it was a joke.

I use XD or LMAO to signify that I actually laughed. I usually use lol mockingly.

I use it to bridge gaps in topics or sentences...

I also use it when there is nothing else to say and im bored...if im actually laughing im more likely to put LMAO or ROFL.
