PS1 or PSP?

I'm an original player towards FFT. Being an awesome game back then, and now playing the retranslated one on PSP, it feels rather awkward to me. Anyone else feel this way?

I want a freakin' PSP only for this game. (And for Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX)

Well, how's the translation in general? Good? Or So-so?

I've only seen the intro movie for the game, and the first ( ? ) FMV, and they took off the "Blame Yourself, or God" phrase of Delita's...I love that phrase...=/

i dunno, i sometimes miss the PS1 game, but i dont think this is any worse, im still just as happy with it :D

I miss the PS1 version. Twas the one I was used to. lol. This re-translation feels strange. At some parts it's more clear to what is ultimately going on. Others, the word usage just makes it feel like they traded certain words so they would use the PS1 way.

Example: East of Gariland. PS1 is Sweegy Woods. PSP is Siedge Weald. It's like they didn't want any base from the PS1 version.

The new translation only diverges from the old one so much because the old one was stupid. Despite your nostalgia, it's infinitely more competent this way.

I prefer a good translation over a crappy one, even if things are spelled so vastly different that it can temporarily throw me off.

I'm willing to ditch nostalgia for quality any day.

I agree. The quality is much better, just breaking the old habits. lol.

I've played both, and while the original will always hold a special place in my heart (Surrender or die in obscurity!), I like the new translation much, much better. I actually know what's going on this time around, and the colorful new dialogue gives the characters more personality.

As far as I know, Sony did the original FFT's translation, not Square - it's the same for FF7. So they didn't just go through the original and decorate it, it's an entirely new translation from scratch, done by the same people who translated FF12.

Hearing all this comments about the translations makes me want to get a PSP even more.
Better Start saving money...

Say, is there a big change on characters' names in the new translation? And how about the jobs? Did the abilities got renamed too?

Some of the jobs and characters have been renamed, but most of the time it's for the better, i've only played up to chapter 3 (i refuse to move on until i get my dark knight :p) but all the ones i can remember are:
Wizard --> Black Mage
Priest --> White Mage
Oracle --> Mystic
Calculator --> Arithmetic
Mediator --> Orator
Algus(?) changed too, but to what, i can't remember
All of the 'Mystic's' abilities have been renamed...and maaaaaybe the Orator's, but don't hold me to that
the summons themselves have the same name, but they're 'moves' are different
And instead of the now 'Black Mage' having 'fire1' 'fire2' etc. it has 'fire' 'fira' 'firaga' and 'firaja', which is pretty sweet.
There are also other small changes in reaction moves and stuff, so now they have 'Critical: HP Restore', but i cant even remember the old one and i dont even think it's that different...
Most of the locations have new names or altered slightly; instead of 'Sweegy Woods' they have 'Siedge Weald', but instead of 'Goug' they have 'The clockwork city of Goug' and 'The merchant city of Dorter'
On top of this there are some general changes, like spelling of names of cities, etc.

Umm...that's about all i can remember right now...oh, the knight has 'rent' instead of...'break' (was it break?) like, 'rent armour' etc.

They changed Fire3 to Firaga? Boooooo......

So far I like the PSP version better. The names sound more medevilish and the cut scenes are just awesome when you come across them.

I do enjoy the old FFt though.

I know the PS3 and PSP have integrated capabilities. Does this extend to being able to play your PSP games on the TV? I have a PS3, and am curious to try the PSP FFT (and am willing to buy a PSP to play it and others), but I can't stand playing games on portable consoles.

you can only play the games on a TV if you get a psp slim and light (or so i've heard), but you definitely cant use a normal psp to play through the ps3 (well, FAIRLY certain), but you CAN watch your movies, etc. Even with the slim and light you dont need the ps3 to play the games, it has an AV port...

Is it worth getting a PSP just to get the remake? It looks all pretty and it's handheld, which I really like, but this would be basically the only game I'd have on it...

And yes, I do already have the original.
