ok how can i convert a .mp4 file into a .wmv or .mpg file?

There's Wave Editor programs (I'm not sure if they're legal though) that can help record a lot of different music file types and can save them as almost any format you want. It may not be converting the file but it's the closest thing I can think of to it.

I'm sorry if I sound conceited but I don't think I should link them to you in case they are illegal.

if you dont mind my asking are your trying to distribute the file or are you trying to watch it.

if its watch it head over to filehippo and grad the vlc player

mplayer is the best way to convert video from one format to another quickly, if you're capable of using the command line interface :monster:

I don't know how well you're going to fare with this. Mplayer is actually a Linux utility, but you can get a Windows port from here.

I believe it includes the command line layer like the Linux version.

It won't screw up your computer. It's just not a straightforward process to convert files. You'll need to read some documentation.

Never mind my advice. I kind of forgot that you wanted to convert video files and not audio.
