Barret was one of the major proponents of letting the Shinra come in and build their facility. Once things went south Barret was an easy target for the rest of the townspeople to take their anger out on and blame since he was pro-Shinra in the beginning.
AKA a scapegoat.
That's what I never understood. Dyne was the only one against it, everyone except Dyne should take the blame. Barret was the scapegoat, but I don't understand why. Look at him, he shouldn't be able to be picked on :D
Mob mentality. It's one of the unfortunate behaviors of humans when in groups.
Its because Barret is black, don't let the game fool you.
Dammit Boko, now I want to wait a couple of months for this thread to sink into oblivion and then make a new thread claiming that North Corel is racist and these events are proof. xD
Barret is Japanese. But he has dark skin. There is no Africa in FFVII.
African people aren't the only ones with dark skin.
And the more absurd the justification, the better. :p
Was Barret the only black guy in the game?
Maybe there aren't any black people in VII, he just has a really really bad sunburn. :/

I think they sorta saw Barret and Dyne as there leaders so they blamed them unfairly, especially as he lost his wife and best friend and was left with a baby to raise by himself. poor ole Barret had a right tough time
Barret and Dyne were like the leaders of North Corel, if anything goes wrong then the leader is blamed:mad2:
no they werent, in the flashback you see the village elder Barret is just another body.
