I agree, it is a great possibility to explore a brand new world. Here here!
Well to not let this thread go to waste.

Gaia from ff9
Ozmone Plains because of the music, and...some really cool looking other place in FFXII. I can't remember the name, but it was all foggy-like and mysterious and I think you fight a tree thing. It's just beyond the Golmore Jungle. Maybe it's the Salikawood I'm thinking of?
Rikks Village in FFV...i liked the music and the backstory you get from it.
FFXII really nails this for me, because half the fun of the game was intended to be exploration. There's so much out there, I doubt I've seen it all, even having played it so much.
I really enjoyed FFV's world with the sidequest areas in the game, like the village from the N-Zone or when you go off to find the pieces to get the ultimate weapons, all fun stuff.
The Deep Sea Research Deposit in FFVIII, especially when I got past Bahamut, the research facility part, and into the "deposit". The music really set the mood.
Omega Dungeon in FFX was also great to explore.
Also the Temple of Fiends in FF1 when you go to fight Chaos. Yep.....back in the day.
The Moon in IV. Love the music there. Plus it's the moon, what else is there to say?
ummmm idk. the thunderplains. although i despise ffx, there is nowhere else in the universe where you can run around looking for treasures while dodgin lightning :p
