Spelunky (free PC game)

What is Spelunky? What, besides addictively brilliant? It's a platformer where you play as a rather thinly veiled Indiana Jones clone, whip, fedora and clown nose included.

Perhaps the best bit about it, if we disregard the fact that you can rescue damsels in distress and then throw them at enemies as projectiles and use them to spring traps, is that the levels are all randomly - yet intelligently - generated. This means that unlike most platformers where you have to memorise the level and get frustrated at a certain point, with this it's always fresh and new.

You will die. You will die a lot. I have died 300 times and I think I only made it past halfway once. But it's fun to die in this game. At least, it is for me!

Anyway I'm sure most of you will think "Huh that sounds cool" and then skip over the thread and not bother to download it. Fair enough. However, I'm sure there'll be one person out there who will download it and will enjoy it as much as I do. 'sup, soulmate? This thread is for you. :kiss:

I got into Spelunky quite a bit a month or two ago. Very cool game.

I had a feeling that if any EoFFer had played it, it would be you.

Some guys on another board that I regular went crazy with it and did everything, but I lost interest around the time when I was about to have the second shortcut paid off. I'm not crazy about the item juggling aspect of the game, especially on those awful dark levels. Those levels should just be removed altogether.

Yeah I've only paid the second shortcut guy twice. As for the dark levels, yeah, totally agreed, especially if I have a shotgun from killing a shopkeeper.

Also I love it when enemies get smurfed over by the environment. Pretty satisfying when those bastard frogs spawn ontop of a spike pit, leap to kill me and get smooshed.

Brilliant. Still haven't made it past the first stage yet, and the stupid trap blocks keep killing me, and I can't throw the bombs into the big spider web, and I can't figure out the bloody shopkeeper, but I love it!

I don't want to risk downloading it and finding out I'm your soulmate :( That'd just be scary :S

I'll probably get this when I get my new PC. :love:

I keep kicking bombs off of the ledge in the tutorial and can't get past the wall. :(
