Can I change back to the old way to mark new posts?

After giving the new way to mark new unread posts, I can certianly say that I like the old way much better, for a veriety of reasons I won't get in to. I was wondering if it is possible to allow users to specify which way they would like new posts marked? Although I would admit I have no idea how much work that would be.

Also, since I am posting on the subject, and fyi that often a sub forum will show it has unread posts in it, but once I visit the forum there are no new posts.

(I am referring to how once you visited the forum all threads would be marked read, and when you returned only new posts since you last visited would be marked. Now a thread is only marked as read if you actually go into it.)

I'm afraid it's all or nothing. I doubt it's even possible to make a hack that allows this to be a user choice. :(

I much prefer the new way, I have to say, but it might be worth seeing what the rest of the forum thinks as a follow-up.

The new way is nothing but an annoyance.

I am all for beating BoB up and re-taking our old read posts method.

I'm with rubah, it was always pretty random to me how it'd eventually give up on trying to get me to read certain threads. But I've never experienced it marking the whole forum as read just by visiting and leaving

Even if we don't change back, can we still beat up BoB?
