I always liked the way that FFX allowed you to use some of your spare items to add a special effect or ability to your weapons and armor. Discuss some of the combinations you've come up with.
It's been a while since I played, but I think I remember setting up a weapon with Evade and Counter, First Strike, and Stonestrike once. That way, I always got the first hit to petrify (if the enemy wasn't immune), and anything that attacked me would get counterattacked as well!
i loved the weapon system in this game. the auto effects were ballin.
i was doing a playthrough (that i never finished / is impossible to finish) wherein the only way i could buff my characters was via weapons (and i could not even upgrade the weapons). it's interesting how far that alone can get you - i got to the first anima battle before my ps2 broke, but others have gotten as far as seymour omnis and jecht iirc doing this challenge.
Tidus, Wakka, Auron, and Kimahri had Evade & Counter weapons. As for Wakka, I generally used a Stonetouch weapon until Gagazet.
My armor usually had, by the end of the game:
Break HP Limit
HP +30%
Auto-Protect
Auto-Shell
Why? I like HP.
