I liked the scene, but I never got it. They seam to have just met here, but they just spontaniously start fighting - did they know each other before hand, or is there another reason. I know Amarant met (SPOILER)Zidane once but Freya doesn't find this out until after the scene.

Cas they needed an excuse to play Amarant's badass theme during that scene.
Isn't Amarant a mercenary? He might have been hired to attack them and Freya stepped up to defend the group. Or he challenged Freya because he thought she looked pretty strong and wanted to test his skills against her.
