wtf mang
So, we were playing FFX-2, aiming for 100%. Chocobo raising, Via Infinito, Trema, CommSpheres, Sphere Break, the whole shebang. Got to the end after some tedious gaming, and Tidus did not return, no perfect ending. We initially shrugged it off because hey, we could have missed something, not impossible with this silly game! But the credits rolled, and we got our stats screen.
100%
wat. wat. How is it possible that we did everything necessary to get 100% but not enough to get the good or perfect endings?! There was a mixture of hilarity and a feeling of our souls being crushed as the 100% screen taunted us. A picture was taken to save the moment forever.
I didn't even know this was possible, but apparently it is. I am curious to see if this has happened to anyone else, in the vain hope that we didn't somehow mess up our game. Also, other FFX-2 rage inducing occurrences that happened when you were playing.

Did you do the whistling when you're in that farplane bit early in the game. I'm unsure on the details, but I don't think that contributes to the percentage, but is required for you to get the ending.
-
We don't remember. We might have failed to get the whole whistling scene.
But then it's stupid that you could get 100% without doing everything required to get the perfect ending. :p
-
Yeah iirc there's some :bou::bou::bou::bou: that gives 0% but is necessary. What balls.
-
Did you talk to the Bahamut fayth kid after you beat the final boss and tell him you want to see Tidus?
-
He never even appeared to us, only got a Tidus-silhouette hug and a goodbye. :3
We do think we messed up the whistle scene, but either way, it's still stupidly annoying that 100% != 100%. Mr Shauna has sped-run the game today, using New Game plus, getting to the end in under 5 hours, with the whistle scene done properly. THIS TIME THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT.
-
I one time played a game through where I did the whistle in chapter 3, and at the end, but got not perfect or even good ending, and this was the game I had had at 100% for like 3 other runs through. I think it may have glitched out or something, but even though I'd seen it a few times before, I still felt jipped.
-
Here are somethings I had to do to get the perfect ending.
1. Have 100% game completed.
2. You need to talk and NOT skip through the talks with the old man who rambles on. There are three times, once at youth league HG, another at Leblancs place, and lastly Zanarken.
3. Do the whistle quest when Yuna falls down the hole of a fayth.
Possible 4th. Maybe the commspheres have something to do with it.
-
Omg who can be bothered...
-
The comspheres are integral to it, so it sleeping aboard the Celsius in every chapter. And telling Bahamut's Fayth that you want to see him again. And talking to moogle-suit Yuna while playing as Rikku during the very first chapter.
...I just used a walkthrough to get the perfect ending on my second playthrough. Easier that way - I can't image how long it would take to get it simply through trial and error.
-
We almost had it, but apparently it was essential for us to speak to Maechen in Guadosalam for the perfect ending, along with the full whistle scene. Those, according to a walkthrough, are the only things you need to do to get the perfect ending, along with 100%. We, of course, did not check an ending guide before we started again, which wasn't the smartest idea. The hardest part is out of the way, tbh. No Via Infinito ever again.
Sigh. It only took us 5 hours to blitz the game, an extra couple of hours another day and we'll have it. Just not for a while. xD
-
Via Infinito's quite a lot easier on subsequent play-thoughs. Mascot, Cat Nip, Iron Duke and Trigger Happy are your friends :D
-
I can imagine that would make everything easier. Cat Nip was a godsend for Via Infinito the first time round, two would be even better. xD
