I personally feel like a lot of really great anime and movies are ruined by the rampant fanservice and are much harder to take seriously, even the comedies with great stories.

yes
i mean with queens blade i know wtf this thing is supposed to be
fanservice isn't a sub element
it IS the show
so i don't care in that case
but then you start a show like high school of the dead expecting i dunno a drama about zombies and stuff and this happens
http://0.asset.soup.io/asset/2041/7968_f0fc.gif NSFW likely
in retrospect perhaps high school of the dead is fan service at the core as well
i'm not against rampant sexuality or anything
but we're seeing these giant boobs on girls that look like they're 12:

and i understand that a lot of anime is made with the intention of having young children who are undergoing puberty being the primary audience
but there are times when i think
why not just make a hentai?
Sometimes fanservice is the reason why I stick with an anime. Though in my case, I sometimes wonder if our anime club intentionally picks shows with fanservice to keep members around.
I agree. Fanservice sucks and I hate it.
But...but that show was awesome, and Mami was awesome! Well, awesome until she (SPOILER)got decapitated anyway.
Besides, no one is a worse offended in the gigantic boobs of prepubescent girls department than Eiken. But then, everyone of all ages in that show has mutantly giant boobs.
Ikki Tousen, mirite?
Also, the Sailor girls get me going.
All I can say is, "Truth."
Well, I suppose I could say more. BLEACH, Naruto, Code Geass and their like certainly don't need fanservice and I'm glad there is only little of it. I've certainly never been a fan of shows that are built around fanservice 'cause I can see voluptuous and "scantily clad" woman all up and down the internet but I watch shows and read manga because it's supposed to have some substance. I don't what their problem is over there in the JAP, but those authors and artists and producers need some sense smacked into them.
That clip from HSD is definitely some whack uselessness.
Honestly, if I'm watching anime I'm expecting there to be giant floppy tits, and if there isn't then it better have a damn good story.
Well, Eric, I believe you've won the thread.
Seriousness aside, excessive fan service is the main reason I don't tell people I watch anime.
Gotta remember the original intended demographic. If you're not a fan of fanservice then you also have the option of like, not watching it. Or you can just deal with it and enjoy the series. I don't know. I find it to be jarring on occasion too but it's not something I really worry too much about.
It doesn't really bother me I take it for what it is, big boobs tiny amounts of clothing and laugh when they defy the law of physics XD. I have never stopped watching an anime due to it though if anything it's amusing.
It's not wrong, but you left out one integral part: Japanese. Their cultural influences are vastly different to those prevalent in your country and mine. There is a much more accepted interest in sexualised imagery; people read H-manga on the goddamn train for instance. That trout would never fly here, or in your country. You'd be arrested for something or other.
I dunno, man. Since the release of Fifty Shades, wanking on the train has become considerably more acceptable.
Well, not acceptable. Defensible.
This was my favourite scene in the entire series.
Im not a fan of fanservice in a series where there isnt normally any fan service but I liked it in highschool of the dead where you have to show off some skin so the audience sees how tasty the humans look to the zombie hordes
Well, I don't know about being arrested, but I'm pretty sure someone reading gratuitous shint on a train would be harrassed a decent bit.
