You will get a 30 day free trial but after that there is a monthly fee to play.
My initial reaction was to direct the OP to the forum description which mentions it's a monthly payment service until I found out that it's apparently been changed.
I'm still pissed about them changing the forum descriptions. They used to be funny, now they're just descriptive. The horror.

Maybe the new expansion will make it worth buying at this stage. Imo, it was more worth buying when it first came out up until a few years ago, but not really right now.

Eh, in his (her?) defense, a lot of people are rebelling against subscription models these days. Many MMORPGs have moved to F2P or freemium models successfully. Personally, I think they're bulltrout, but I also tend to dig pretty heavily into whatever MMO I'm playing, and that makes F2P and freemium models very expensive if I want to keep up.
