I really like the battle system in this game. It's even better if you have a friend to help you out. The only problem I have with is when monsters keep chasing you around the whole map. Sometimes I don't mind but other times I just wish they would leave me the smurf alone.
What do you think about the gameplay?
I was disappointed in DQIX after the greatness of DQVIII. I think IX was a backwards step in terms of presentation. I did like the use of the job system in the game but it really bothered me that you had to start at level 1 when changing jobs. Essentially your party had to powerlevel you if you wanted a new job and that kind of tedium is one of the worst things about the DQ series.
I didn't play online at all because I don't know anyone with a DS and the game.
I liked it enough okay. I did enjoy the battle system, and it still had the DQ charm that I love so much.
It wasn't as great as IV, V, VII, or VIII, but it was good.
I had mixed feelings about their decision to remove random battles. I'm one of the crazy ones who actually likes them, and that kind of was one of those Dragon Quest things...
The job system was nice. I forget what the skill system was called, but I liked it. Sure you had to start over at level 1, but it was good because it gave you the chance to earn more skill points. And if you planned well enough it was actually to your benefit.
The job system made me spend a lot of time earning xp, which was both good and bad. I liked the job system a good bit, especially if I knew what jobs I was wanting my characters to have. (I don't know why but during my current playthrough I have a minstrel, martial artist, mage, and priest and it makes the game to were I don't have to earn a lot of skill points and xp before going to fight a boss) The only bad thing about not going around with THAT high of a level means all the monsters will spam attack you.
