Haven't played VI-IX sadly. I've been told that VIII is the best thing ever. I'll get around to it one day!

Dragon Quest is more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan, I hear. I think the success of the Dragon Quest series allows Square Enix to take risks with some of its other franchises, like Final Fantasy and Mana.
