Lard
AKA Manteca . Does anyone actually still use it for cooking?
And on that note, do you save your bacon grease to make other things later?
The only use for it (lard) I can think of is making homemade refried beans - which I'm -still- not good at in spite of many years of trying and practicing. IDK, they just don't turn out right. They always end up looking grey instead of the "pretty" brown color.
I do have a can of Crisco in my fridge though for making biscuits & gravy with.
I used to save my bacon grease 'cuz I was always fixing bacon and stuff - like I'd cook up french fries or something similar in it - fried chicken, fried cube steak (mmm), whatever. But I've gotten lazy about it and we've switched to Turkey Bacon lately.

Vegetable oils.
I'm just waiting for Vivi22 to flip his lid at this thread.

I use lard for pie crust.
I love pie crust. It's the best part of the pie.
-
Ive never baked a pie...o.o;; so I wouldn't know.
Haha Vivo would go bonkers, huh?
Edit:
Turkey Bacon is healthy... At least this thread has some good in it.. hahahaha

I use it for baking Hopias. You cannot make Hopias without!
-
Is this more of your cannibalistic shenanigans?
I kid. I have no idea what a hobias is.

We saved our bacon grease as a kid. My dad would use it to make the most amaaazing gravy, and then we'd have bacon and/or sausage, eggs and biscuits and slather the gravy in it. It will clog your arteries, but it is so worth it. I don't really do it too often since I've gotten older, but every once in a while I'll get a craving for it and make it up. Additionally, bacon grease in waffles makes them so much better.
The word lard grosses me out.

Moist lard.
Yeah, I use lard and bacon grease. Lard for breads like biscuits, and also some frying. Bacon grease to season beans.

lmao I just bought a tub of the ish. IDK what possesses me to buy certain things...
I've also decided to give making refried beans another go, so whatever. Maybe I'll make a pie too someday.
