What did you think of the opening?

I read an article in RetroGamer the other day where they interviewed Akitoshi Kawazu one of the game's main designers and he mentioned that the opening was inspired as a means to shake up the player like how the first game made you play a long prologue before flashing the title screen.

So what are your thoughts about the game jumping you straight into a losing battle?

Caught me very off guard. I tried a ROM of it a few years before any official release. I thought that it was a cool trick to do and when I eventually completed a later release of FFII, I thought that action did a good job of setting up the game's mood.

I didn't notice there was something special about it so I guess there's my impression :monster:
