Why can't I hold all these dragons

I really like how many dragons are in FFV. It feels to me like there are more dragons than usual in this particular FF, and I'm digging it.

I also really like that you get a dragon to ride around on fairly early on in the game!

I like the dragons, but I am glad there isn't too much time devoted to them. I wouldn't want it to drag on.
